The Great Swamp

This shot was taken last Saturday afternoon on a walk through the Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge. It is just that, a swamp. There are walkways, like this one, that wind their way through the swamp to observation blinds set up for bird, and wildlife watching. There wasn't much in the way of wildlife around when we were there, but it was a beautiful day. The leaves, what was left of them, were very pretty and as you can see the sky was a beautiful blue.

A little note on my last post; I was thrilled with how well it was received and I thank everyone for the wonderful feedback. I was feeling much better when I took it, I wasn't really sick anymore but that was how I did feel when I was sick. I plan on doing some more in the theme of suffering, but they are really in no way a reflection of me and how I am. I am pretty up-beat, most of the time, and reasonably well adjusted. These are just experiments into showing emotions through self portraiture. I plan on following that theme with one on Joy.

This is a lovely shot Laurie. It looks like such a beatuiful, tranquil place.

The colours are great, as is the composition. I like how the railings lead the eye toward the center, and the lines from those nice crisp shadows are a very nice touch.

les lignes de perspective sont admirables. l'horizon arrive comme une source d'espoir.

this is a great shot, the formal lines of the timber walkway and shadows work well with the richly coloured trees at the end and that deep blue sky...

The shade on the pathway is nice, as you now have three sets of lines going down the pathway. Very well seen.

Lovely shot, Laurie.

There's a swamp near here as well. Actually, it's in Columbia, South Carolina. One would do will to wear plenty of mosquito repellant when visiting! The day that I went there were no animals to be seen either.

Lovely lovely shot, me really likes the perspective and the colours depicted in this shot. Little niggle though, image is not straight :)

Thanks Suby! :)
Actually it is straight. I wasn't centered on the bridge which gives the illusion of it not being straight. It was a conscious decision I made since I really wanted the center shadow line to go through the center of the shot and If I changed the perspective to get the top rails even in the shot it would have taken the center shadow and moved it off center. But when you look at the trees and the posts (except for a tiny lens distortion on the right one closests to me) they are indeed straight.

I really like the lines leading the eye to the trees in the center. Great job! And the colors are beautiful. Was a polarizer used on this, or did you just luck out with a nice blue sky? (I'm jealous) :-)

Alice...Thanks for the compliment. I do use polarizers. It also helps to have the sun in the right place. In this shot it was low in the sky and to my left. It was wonderful, warm, late afternoon, fall light. And yes, the sky was also that gorgeous blue!

Alice...Oops, I meant my other left...I hate when I do that. The sun was on my right not my left...lol. For some reason when I look at photos I mix up my left and my right...I don't get it. Sorry.

This is so beautiful ... Though the first thing that catches my attention is the wooden bridge ... but then the trees ansd the sky are so lovely too. Blue-yellow-brown --- a very beautiful image.

An artistic, symmetrical, nature and scenic shot all rolled into one. Feels like I am standing there. Great place to be.

Amazing shot Laurie, I love the perspective and patterns you've captured here. They all lead you too the magnificent fall colour at the other end.

Now that's what you call perspective in the full sense of the word. It almost looks like smoke signals coming up from behind the trees. Really beautiful, Laurie!
