Lonely Path
It's been a very LONG and busy weekend...but a very enjoyable one as well...except for the moment I was almost run over in a parking lot...long story...don't ask. This weekend we racked up over 600 miles trying to complete the NJ Lighthouse Challenge which consists of visiting all of the 11 remaining land based lighthouses in NJ. On Saturday, after work, lessons, and other kid events, we managed to see 3 of the lighthouses closest to us. On Sunday we left at 5 AM to head out for the remaining 8. We managed to complete the challenge at about 5:30 PM with 30 minutes to spare since it was to end at 6 PM. No awards, just a souvenir "puzzle" for each of the 11 pieces that you get from each location, a picture in the Lighthouse Society magazine, and of course, lots of great photo ops. I will probably post one shot from the tour per week for the next 11 weeks with a little history of that particular lighthouse.
I am thinking that this might be a nice event for the area Photobloggers to do together next year as a "meet-up" event. If you are a local, or even a not so local photoblogger, let me know if you think you might be interested.
As for this shot, it was taken in Watchung Reservation 2 weeks ago. Watchung is a "mountain range" near our house. It's more like large hills compared to what other places call mountains, but it is still quite pretty. The leaves were just starting to change, but that didn't really matter for this shot since it was primarily pine trees lining this lonely path.
I want to thank everyone for visiting and all the lovely comments lately. I have finally gotten most of the nuances of my camera figured out, and it's really starting to feel like a "part of me" an "extension" of me. If that makes sense. Now that I don't have to worry as much about whether or not I got the "technical" aspects of the shot right or not, I have more freedom to concentrate on the composition and exposure itself. I think I've noticed an improvement in the images I've managed to capture in the last few weeks, I hope you all have too.
I apologize for not being around as much. I have a lot of catching up to do with you all.

Your b&w images keep getting better and better! This is a beauty!
Sounds like a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing all the shots of those lighthouses. Good to hear you had such a fine weekend...except for the parking lot incident. I won't ask.
Sounds like you had a looong weekend, 600miles, what 7 eeecccck. Oh well, as long as I am not the onde driving. LOL

This place looks so quiet and relaxing. Just the kind of place I would love to get to and just get away from it all. Beautifully done!

a very nice tranquil woodland scene.
Sounds like a great trip! I love lighthouses so I'm excited to see the photos.
You'd never know you hadn't already figured out your new camera...your photos from the get-go have been fantastic. But I do agree...I am still learning about the world of SLR and I can't imagine life without it!
Nicely done, the mood is perfect for this time of year
Bonjour,
Very nice photo! I like the "style" of this picture! Bravo!
I was just at the Watchung reservation last week, such a beautiful place. Great shot!
wonderful softness, beautiful light, and moody as well.
wonderful. This b&w really captures the scene.
Laurie, I love the soft effect here. Awesome work. I may not be in NY next year, but please do add me to your list, who knows, I may drop by NJ. :-)
The gradient of light here is perfect. I think that landscapes like this are often a struggle to convert to b&w, but you did a great job here.
