Suffering 1
Well this is a very different shot for me. It was inspired by my bout of illness that had started a few weeks ago (I believe it was flu). It's remnants held on for a LONG time and I am still suffering from a slight cough as a result.I intentionally made this shot "gritty" to emphasize the crappy way I felt when I was sick. This is purely an experimental shot for me. It's not my forte to do these posed shots, but it was sort of fun to try it.
I will also use this post to remind everyone to get your flu shots this year. I get mine every year. Unfortunately, I was hit by the flu very early, before the shot was available. I still intend to get immunized just in case and to protect me against other strains.

Boom!
That's what I thought when I first saw this. It's so well posed it almost doesn't look posed, but rather composed. Great B&W tones and DOF--especially on the Ny-Quil bottle and your head behind the tissue box. I'd say this experiment was a rousing success!
Oh yeah, something I forgot to mention. If you took the NyQuil bottle out of the picture, this could actually be interpreted in more ways. When I first saw it, I didn't see the bottle, and it almost looked like someone in grief after losing a loved one or something. But of course, you had something specific in mind, so the bottle was a good call.
nice shot,
doesnt look posed at all,
the bottle, the tissues everything looks authentic, not placed.
I love this, Laurie!! One of your best ever! So, even a bout with the flu had a silver lining...inspiration for a FANTASTIC self portrait.
This is great! In a way, it has a Halloween feel to it, too. The Nyquil bottle placement is perfect! Great shot!
I really like this one Laurie. The DoF is perfect. Your hand in the foreground is nice and sharp, but the rest of the image is just out of focus enough to still draw interest. Great shot! And good reminder for everyone to get their flu shots! I'm scheduled to get mine on the 7th. :-)
for an experiment it's a wonderful shot! i really like this: the misery of a cold really oozes out!
This is so well done ... it really portrays the misery ... Excellent!!!
man, this virus obviouly really likes you...
beautiful self-portrayal here, i love the way you've only kept your hand in focus...trust me these posed shots can get addictive....8.25/10
au départ, on croirait presque un fantôme. qch interpelle dans la photo. après on comprend. la photo est très belle.
I like this in the b&w. I think it makes the image much more poignant.
You'd be great in advertising. It actually reminds me of the Grim Reaper...and Monty Python's "Meaning of Life"...although Flu's is no laughing matter.
That's exactly how i feel just before birthday or xmas :|
Great atmosphere although it comes through as deep and heavy sadness moreso than misery due to sickness. I love it anyway.
I like this a lot. The glowy blurry halloween shot executed nicely. Looks like coming from a headless boy though :P
Flu shot, got it, thanks :) get well.
Great message, great DOF picture. Your experiment is a sucess.
Shock & horror, I am actually able to view your page, yipee, it only took me about 4 minutes to load LOL.
I do like the grittiness of the shot, but glad you are not still feeling this way, It always baffles me that even when we feel like crap, the camera is never that far from our minds and fingers :)
Suby
hard to cheer up but we must try, right?
The B&W and shallow DOF are so fitting for the mood here. I love the perspective with your hand in the foreground, grasping in despiration. Very well done.
Very very clever.Nice mood as well,I like this.At times experimental shots work very well.
What a great idea a shot like this was, very Halloweenish and kind of spooky. I know how you feel, just got over the flu myself about 10 days ago and still have that darn old cough
Mmmmmmm, Ny-Quil. My favourite.
Excellent photo. Quite a departure...but it's fantastic.
wow nice picture i love the shadows symetry
I love the element you included in your shallow DOF.
Like nearly all people said, the DOF is really great. Nice composition and this picture really 'speaks' for me!
