"Rachel" The rest of the story

Rachel

Rachel walks alone on the grounds of the very place she died and was buried along with those who loved her. The decayed shell of the church that burned and caved in so long ago, claiming those lives, stands sentinel over her prison on earth. She, in the lonesome company of her own thoughts and memories, her soul never to know peace, walks and mourns and longs to join the very people whose lives she so destroyed with her treachery.

Rachel, a beautiful, misguided and impressionable young woman, was in Love. He was a handsome man with hypnotizing eyes and a silky smooth voice that had an intoxicating effect on her. There was nothing he could not convince her to do; she was utterly under his control.

He blinded her to the truth and only her family recognized this man’s true nature and they forbade her from ever seeing him. He was an evil man with many secrets and a nefarious character.

Despite all the horrible things everyone told her about him, about the lives he’d destroyed, Rachel refused to believe them. They warned her that he would destroy her just as he had so many others, but she refused to listen. The more they pleaded the more loathsome she became of them.

How could this beautiful man who adored her be anything like the man they described? She was even able to dismiss what she witnessed with her own eyes and ears “He loves me!” She reasoned, and that was good enough. She was indeed completely beguiled by him and she would sell her soul to win his love.

He filled her head with lies and instilled hatred for them in her heart. He convinced her that they had only evil intentions for her and that they wanted to destroy them both. He told Rachel that she could never know happiness with him as long as they stood in her way. She became as cruel as he and destroyed all that was in her path. Evil, vindictive ideas filled her head and he fed them with his lies. She became insatiable in her desire to see them all suffer. She was one of his best students.

His plan was complete and he had his minion to carry it out. He was proud of his conquest and was already planning his next. He knew she would do his bidding and told her what to do. He told her she had no choice and would be doing the right thing.

Only after she had done the deed, did she realize the true nature of this man she loved and whom she thought loved her. She saw too late how evil and cruel this man really was. Only then did she realize that she had murdered the only people who ever really loved her, the ones who tried to save her from an eternity in Hell. What she had done was to sell her soul to the Devil. Upon her awakening to this reality, she couldn’t live with the terrible guilt and ended her earthly suffering on the very grounds of the church where she had done the Devil’s bidding.

She left behind the pain she had on earth only to be imprisoned by the gates of purgatory. Walking alone, weeping, and never resting; longing for a peace she may never know. Some days you can hear her weeping from the shell of the old church. Sometimes you can hear her walking in the rustle of the dried leaves that little the ground and feel the icy fingers of her breath on the back of your neck on a chill October night if you dare to enter the gates.

I had originally intended to publish the first "Rachel" shot on Sunday and this one on Tuesday, but it just didn't work out the way I planned. I'm afraid I'm not much of a writer but I hope you enjoyed my feeble attempt at a little illustrated ghost story. I had fun with it such as it is. To view the first "Rachel" shot, click on either of the images for the previous post.

Wonderful old gates. I love wrought-iron fencing.

I think that the important thing about writing stories like this is that you do have fun. :-)

Nice images for the completion of the story. I especially like the picture of the gates -- the vertical bars make nice frames for the scene beyond.

Happy halloween.
