Tiny House 1

I want to Love this photo and a part of me does because I love this tiny little house. Unfortunately it is located on a relatively busy intersection. The street, utility pole, and a stop sign are just out of frame on the right in this shot which forced me to frame the fence a little closer to the edge than I would have liked. In a perfect world, those obstacles wouldn't have been in my way, how rude of them! The other issue was the light. Which was why I tried a little Sepia toning. The Sepia seemed to work fairly nicely with this image.

I've been back there twice at different times of the day but the light was still not really what I wanted, not to mention both days were a bit dull. I want to go back one more time in the early AM to see if it's better then, I just have not had the opportunity yet. It might make a nice winter scene (keeping my fingers crossed).

As for the house itself, I know nothing about it other than it is really tiny and, I think, adorable. I am not even entirely sure if it is a house, or an office of some sort. It seems too small to be a house although I have seen at least one other house this small.

To answer some questions from the last post:

The lens I have my eye on is the Tokina AT-X 840D, AF80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 (although I would like to find a faster lens) but the price is really good, it has a nice range, not too heavy but is solid and doesn't feel cheap, it's clear, crisp, quick responsive focus, and I really like Tokina lenses. I currently have 2 and they are fantastic peices of glass.

As for the printer, the Epson pro 3800 was a nice compromise between the Epson pro 2400 & 4800. I think it will fit my needs for at least 90% of what I do, the rest, I will send out. My husband did a lot of research and we compared it to the other 2 at the show and feel it fit's needs and budget best for us. Here is link to learn more about the printer. It should be available by the beginning of December.

Yvon...I don't really know too much about Canon, but I did see that they have a new prosumer 10 mp body, Canon 400D, that was introduced in October. I didn't look at it, but the link I provided has a full review.

The peach camera in the fish tank was a Pentax Optio Waterproof camera, so I am assuming that the display was for Pentax although I didn't look to closely at the other items in the tank. It's possible that it was for various brands of waterproof optics and cameras. I was more interested in the peach camera being included since the color was so much like the fish.

I didn't do anything special to yesterdays shot. I only had to do a slight curves adjustment. The lighting in the tank was very nice and really made the fish bright and colorful, of course I had to find a clean spot free of smudges, scratches, and reflections and hope the fish co-operated which they did...eventually.

*News Flash: New Photoblog Community Platform!*

Well I don't actually know how new it is, but it seems fairly new. I found this great Photoblog platform called "Aminus3". I'm sure some of you are familiar with it. At the moment it doesn't seem to support outside hosting for domains but perhaps it will in the future. I'm inquiring about that with them now. I made a second photoblog over there yesterday and I really like the layout and functionality.

It was designed from the ground up with photoblogging in mind. It allows the viewer to pick an image size without changing the layout or opening the image in another page. On the lower right side there are 2 tabs "small" and "large" that way the viewer can choose a size that fits their monitor. When you choose a size, and you visit another photoblog in that community, it will remember the size you chose to view from the previous photoblog. The comments are really well laid out and easy to use. There are nice backgrounds to choose from but the fonts and such are limited. There is thumbnail archiving and portfolio page. There is an about me page where you can also upload a photo. I just think it's a very nice photoblog platform that people might want to check out. Here is a link to the blog I made over there (same fish post from yesterday) just so you can get an idea of what it's like.

While it may be true that you can't always help your surroundings, I think you did a remarkable job of getting this shot Laurie. The fence actually works really nicely here: first you look at the house, then the fence helps lead the eye to the rest of the shot and back to the house again. And the sepia was a great choice here.

Looks like an old one-room school house converted into something else. Great shot!

I agree with what Stardog Champion said. I think the fence works well since you were able to keep it in the frame as it recedes in the distance. Had it gone out of the frame midway along the side, it may have been more of a distraction.

I like the sepia toning too. It gives a warm, soothing feel.

Have fun with the new lens and printer.

Love the soft focus of this shot, The way the fence petters off into the horizon catches my eyes as well.

Good capture, good monochrome Laurie.

So charming, Laurie!! I really like the compositon and the toning adds warmth to the shot. You should make this a year long project, shooting it during every season. I'm working on that with my Lightning Rod house.

Regarding Aminus3, I have been considering a move over there every since H.O. made his move. It does look like a fantastic place. I might try to get a page set up over our winter break.

Aminus3 has been around for a while. I have a frequent visitor who uses the site and his blog is quite nice.

I'm always enthralled with tiny houses. I wonder how they came to be - especially in this age of McMansions.

I really like this one, Laurie. The sepia works well for this shot I think. And the composition is great. It is a tiny house. I'd be interested to learn more about it. Great job, Laurie!

this is fantastic...i think one of the curses of being a good photographer is that u instinctively tend to undervalue ur photos simply because you view the photo in a way that extends beyond the photo while the lucky viewers can just admire this great great shot.....8.5/10

about aminus3- i came across it during its early stages and since uve presented me with the problkem (;-)), do u think its worth moving over?

this is a wonderful image, revisiting a place over time can be very revealing not only of the location and space, but also of your reaction to this place over time, as you grow more familiar with it, and see something new on subsequent visits..
keep them coming and Happy Thanksgiving..
