Sweet Music
I want to thank everyone for the Holiday wishes. It was a wonderful Christmas indeed! It was really good to have everyone under one roof. Oh, and the best present I got, besides Rob being home, was my very own Velcro Dart Nerf Gun!!! Look out boys...mamma's packin' Nerf!!! So now I am prepared for their ambushes. I'm a pretty fair shot too! This is a picture of Jon's violin and some of his music from last year. I'm still having fun playing with the macro lens and lighting, so this was an experiment all the way around. It's not really a macro, although it was shot with that lens. I like this lens a lot, even for portraits, although my 85mm f 1.8 is still my best for portraits, this one definitely passes fair, although the focus is very finicky compared to the 85mm.
I did not get the printer yet, the one I want won't be in stock until some time in January. I did get a 500GB LaCie hard drive though for my photos which was definitely needed as I was starting to run out of space. I should be good to go for a while.
I meant to get out today and take some photos of bridges or the rail yard, but I made it out a bit late, because of a long phone call. When I finally did get out I got about 1/2 a block I discovered a nail in a very flat tire. That's 3 on this car in less than a year. Fortunately it was able to be repaired right away and only cost $10. There's been a lot of construction going on in the neighborhood this year...I will be glad when it's over! Maybe then I will stop getting nails in my tires.
It was too late to go where I wanted to go to shoot and the light had gone rather flat by the time I was able to get out anyway. I will just have to go tomorrow instead.
(I know there are specs in the photo, it's rosin from Jon's bow, not dust on my lens or sensor.)

Great, great shot. I really like it. The textures are so varied, and the color of the wood is a very nice shade of brown. I also like the way you positioned everything, from the music to different parts of the violin.
I like this shot Laurie. The lighting on the violin bridge is perfect. Oh, Congratulations on getting your own Nerf..way to go.
Hehe I'm glad to hear you got your own Nerf gun :-P. This is a great photo - though personally I would have preferred a little more DOF.
i agree with ben,a little more DOF would have been great..
other than that the backround score, adds a lot to the image....
Great shot. Exposure is perfect and the positioning pleasing to the eye. Well done.
I just got your comment, thanks, and what are you doing up at this hour?! :)
This is a very well composed shot. Nicely done.
What a great close up and details. Excellent perspective!
lovely photo Laurie!
great details!
Specks or no, it's a good shot! :-)
Beautiful with lots of great detail, I can see the music is used - there's a hook or pull mark above the "d" ;)
Nice shot, Laurie. And I'm glad you had a nice Xmas. Can't wait to hear about the butt-kicking you're going to do now with the nerf gun! Enjoy!
Have a great 2007!
He's got a beautiful violin, and this is a lovely composition you've created!
No go Nerf those boys without any mercy shown!

Very interesting shot, Laurie. But perhaps it would look better in B&W?
Cheers,
Thanks Salar...I did a B&W version and it really seemed to lack the kind of contrast that I prefer in black and white shots. Plus I just love Jon's violin. the wood is so rich and beautiful and that richness just doesn't quite come through in black and white. In all fairness though, this shot is actually somewhat desaturated using with a black and white gradient layer blended into the background. The original photo is a bit redder in tone as is the violin itself.
