Bring Up the Lights!
Some of you may know that I am affiliated with a few local orchestras. Some of them I am involved with through my kids as well as working with them as a Music Librarian. I've also recently taken on the "job" of being their resident photographer this past year. I really enjoy working with the musicians they are truly wonderful, friendly, talented people.Last night was the first of 2 winter concerts for one of these groups. The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra www.njio.org is a group of talented musicians of all ages ranging from the very young to the very young at heart. They have 3 levels of orchestras to challenge the fairly new musician to the more experienced, more advanced players. Many of the musicians choose to participate in all 3 groups just because they love to play and enjoy the camaraderie.
This is a shot I took from the lighting/sound booth just before the concert began. I will not likely be posting photos here of members since many are children and I've not obtained permission, so I will leave that up to the orchestra itself to decide which, if any, they would like to use on their web-site since they have the proper releases. I was pleased to see that my member photos were included in the program as well as in a fund raising campaign presentation. It made me smile.

Fine tones and detail, excellent!
Very moody shot! I like the play between light and shadows. Perfect b&w! Well done. I hope you will be able to post the portrait of some musicians later on.
Great use of lighting, like the atmosphere in it.
very beautiful shot!!! the lighting is perfect here ... very artistic!
Very nice shot here, Laurie! I like the black and white processing!
Laurie, This is a great shot and I apreciate your black and whites. You've got the tonality down, with a distinct stylistic interpretation. Very nice.
Lovely shot, perfect in B&W. I really like the high contrast lighting. I've been meaning to shot musicians for a while now, maybe soon thanks to your inspiration.
This is a really wonderful use of light and shadow and the b&w is the only way to go.
The tones and shadows on this shot are wonderful, Laurie.
Great shot. Congrats on your photos being used in their PR pieces. That's great!
Sounds like a great way to use the cameras and fine tune your skills! Much luck to you with this project.
How nice is that? It is a good feeling to see your work put to good use. Well done.
I like this image. Well composed and exposed.
I really like the dark feeling of the shot. The title goes well.
A fantastic balance between b&W ! Superb image!
I like the mood of this shot

I've been to similar concerts and I have to say, the talen there is mesmerizing to the ears.

sounds like fun. around music and in photography:) nice shot. I like the tones.
Great lighting...and I love the human element
This is really cool. You can only see the shadows of the musicians !
@ Regis...Actually the booth is located high up in the balcony at the very rear of the 900-1000 seat (I think) auditorium. You cannot see the stage from the angle that I shot this. I would have to be directly behind him to get a view of the stage, the window in the sound and lighting booth is quite small. I think what you see here is the wall, the balcony rail and beyond that the long velvet drapes that cover the huge windows in the old auditorium.
