Bring Up the Lights!

Some of you may know that I am affiliated with a few local orchestras. Some of them I am involved with through my kids as well as working with them as a Music Librarian. I've also recently taken on the "job" of being their resident photographer this past year. I really enjoy working with the musicians they are truly wonderful, friendly, talented people.

Last night was the first of 2 winter concerts for one of these groups. The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra www.njio.org is a group of talented musicians of all ages ranging from the very young to the very young at heart. They have 3 levels of orchestras to challenge the fairly new musician to the more experienced, more advanced players. Many of the musicians choose to participate in all 3 groups just because they love to play and enjoy the camaraderie.

This is a shot I took from the lighting/sound booth just before the concert began. I will not likely be posting photos here of members since many are children and I've not obtained permission, so I will leave that up to the orchestra itself to decide which, if any, they would like to use on their web-site since they have the proper releases. I was pleased to see that my member photos were included in the program as well as in a fund raising campaign presentation. It made me smile.

Very moody shot! I like the play between light and shadows. Perfect b&w! Well done. I hope you will be able to post the portrait of some musicians later on.

Laurie, This is a great shot and I apreciate your black and whites. You've got the tonality down, with a distinct stylistic interpretation. Very nice.

Lovely shot, perfect in B&W. I really like the high contrast lighting. I've been meaning to shot musicians for a while now, maybe soon thanks to your inspiration.

This is really cool. You can only see the shadows of the musicians !

@ Regis...Actually the booth is located high up in the balcony at the very rear of the 900-1000 seat (I think) auditorium. You cannot see the stage from the angle that I shot this. I would have to be directly behind him to get a view of the stage, the window in the sound and lighting booth is quite small. I think what you see here is the wall, the balcony rail and beyond that the long velvet drapes that cover the huge windows in the old auditorium.
