From Pretty to Gritty

This is from the same day and location in New Hope Pennsylvania as this shot. I am very fond of vintage rail travel, particularly the old steam engines like this one. It's something I've inherited from my dad. When we were young my dad often took us to the rail yards and museums.

One of my brothers worked for Conrail years ago and he took me to the rail yard so I could look around and get a very close up look at the trains. He even took me inside the big diesel engine and I got to look at the huge pistons. We went inside the "garage". I don't know if that's the correct term, but he took me down into the pit and I got to have a look at the underside of the big diesel engines that were in there for repairs. I thought it was a little creepy but so cool.

My neighbor loved the framed print that I gave her of the purple mum from the last post. She also told me that she knows the woman who owns a framing store in town who is looking to showcase local artists in her store which she is expanding to include a gallery. I met with the her yesterday (thank-you Holly for introducing us) and she picked five prints that she wants to showcase in June. I am very excited especially since this store is in my hometown.

Excellent and sharp image! I am hoping this summer to do some shots with railroads and trains. I've wanted to for a while, so I'm going to seek some out and try it. I'm also going to attempt to get to Steamtown in Scranton this summer! :)

Congrats.. it is so exciting to some of your own work on show to a wider audience... We know how good your work is, but to be seen in the real world... we have recently had a small success, which I'll share on the blog in the next few days.

Nice pic of the train, reminds me of the subway ride to work this morning
:o)

I like the leading lines created by the rails. If you like trains, you should visit Strasburg RR in Strasburg, PA (Lancaster County), if you haven't done so already. Many, many vintage locos in their museum and on their grounds, and they have train rides on a steam locomotive, too. Very cool. Congrats on the public display of your work. That's great.

Just like you I am very fond of trains. They also often have very interesting textures on them, especially on those old worn out ones. Must have been an exciting day!

This shot took me back to a memory of kindergarten (trust me - it's eons ago), when our class got to ride an old steam engine train along a ridge in Arizona, to a school picnic.

Congratulations on the gallery opportunity! I hope it will lead to a much wider audience, and lots of requests for your work, Laurie.
