Down on the Farm
Sunday afternoon we took a ride out to Hoffman Park, which was my Aunt's Farm up until a few years ago when she sold it to the County and Township to be preserved as open space never to be developed, at least that's the hope. The farm was a place that I loved to visit as a girl. Not only did I love to see my Aunt, I just loved the farm and all that went with it. I am really happy to be able to still visit whenever I want since even though my Aunt is gone, the park remains open to the public.
There are 353 acres with some 32 ponds for fishing. It looks different since there is a lot more wooded land now than when I was a child. I remember more open pastures for the cows that once grazed there. The buildings have fallen into disrepair which is very sad for me since I loved to see the beautiful farm house and barns which are off limits to the public. Maybe they will be restored?
We didn't get to walk and explore as much as I would have liked since a thunderstorm blew up when we were well into the property and had to turn around to get back to the car before we got a thorough soaking or worse. I witnessed many too close for comfort lighting strikes there when I was a child and those are not my fondest memories!
I converted this one to black and white since the light was rather flat that afternoon and it just didn't look very good in color to me.

A wonderful tribute to your Aunt. Turning the farm into a public park is a great way to preserve a part of history. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I am entirely all right with photowannabe, and like to is not it? :)
i've always liked this kind of scene but never really captured it effectively...did you use a longer lens to flatten the image? however it was done, it's a nice shot.
NICE scene and nice tones in your BW pp
Very nice composition and a wonderful story to go with it. The image is literally a walk down memory lane for you. I'm glad to see someone had the wisdom to preserve the farm as open space for the public and take it away from the developers.
Serenity... very nice.
This is the kind of photography I need to get doing. Peaceful, good stuff with living in the country. So much around here that I take for granted. This is a great shot. Well done.
Makes me wonder what's at the end of the road. Great shot!
Peaceful scene... nice composed with the perspective.
Laurie, I do like this in b/w. Sepia would look nice, too. What a fun day, exploring such familiar countryside. You're blessed to be able to have a place like that to return to after all these years. (My dad grew up out in the country, but now Georgia-Pacific owns all the land. Before he died last summer, he and two of my brothers went on a trip back to his home state. The property is all fenced up and No Trespassing signs are posted everywhere.
Enjoy those outings at the farm!

Oh, Laurie...this is a gorgeous, amazing shot. I love it in b&w. Perfect.
I spent some time catching up....wonderful work as always Laurie.
Laurie, you must have some wonderful memories of the place. It looks great. This photo is wonderful. That road just makes the picture have a 3 dimensional quality. Very nice.
To step out into the countryside, wind down, clear away the busy thoughts...looks like just the place to be
Very nice b&w work. I like your composition and framing. Looks like a wonderful area in which to amble with a camera.
Good Idea to go B&W on this shot, works well, like the fact that he looks like he working down a long path, what he finds at the end is anyones guess.
Good one
