Duty, Honor, Country

Another photo from West Point. I've had little time to go shooting lately so I've been going through some of the archived photos.

It's going to be a very busy weekend. Lots to do.

I have some exciting news about Russell. He will be playing bassoon in the orchestra pit for a rather large production of "Carousel" this summer with the New Jersey Youth Theater. It's a group of talent that range from high school students, college students, and professionals. They do a major theater production every summer on a very rigorous schedule which will include 17 performances. Nine of the performances will be at NJPAC, and the other eight will be at the Algonquin Arts Theater. All performances are in July and August. It is very exciting. If anyone is interested, please visit the links for more info on the performances.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Way to go, Russell! Nice shot, by the way. I think the simplicity of b/w for this shot really is perfect for this simple, yet powerful message.

fabrizio..I'm not sure what you mean but I was under the impression, perhaps mistakenly, that Switzerland had conscription (or Draft) for all males who have reached age 20 with the largest number of soldiers per capita than any other Western Democracy? Unless you were talking tongue in cheek?

I thought that they required them to go through 15 weeks of Military training and serve between 300 and 1,300 days of active military service? I also thought that up until 1996 if you professed your self a contentious objector that you sent to jail? Now, if you are a contentious objector you are given the option of some other sort of civil service that is considered non-combat related but are required to serve 50% longer than if you chose Military. I also understand that if you are a citizen living outside the country you have to forfeit 2% of your Salary in lieu of service as a military exemption tax? Is that info correct or am I mistaken?

I think by putting this in black and white, it makes it a more powerful image.
