Looking Through; East Point Lighthouse

This is a shot of East Point Lighthouse. It was built in 1849 and remained active until the war in 1941 when the light was extinguished. In July 1980 the beacon was re-installed and it has remained an active navigation aid ever since. Over the years it's undergone restoration work and a lot was accomplished but it seems as though it's been ignored in recent years seeming to fall once again into disrepair.

It is a beautiful lighthouse located down a clamshell road, tucked away among the tall grass, shrubs, and trees at the edge of the Delaware Bay in Maurice River Township NJ. It seems so secluded there which is what draws me to it. It's sturdy brick design also makes it somewhat unique to the other lighthouses in NJ.

We got there in time for the sunrise and although the sunrise was just so so that morning, I still loved wandering around the area looking for some unusual views of the lighthouse. This was shot from the shoreline along the bay, peeking through the grass, just the other side of the dunes from the lighthouse.

I have several more "unique" views that I will post in this series. I hope you enjoy them. I had the best time shooting that morning.

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there!

A splendid mood on this one I like this moment named in french "entre chiens et loups". (Literal translation: "between dogs and wolfs")

Laurie, I love lighthouses and we have a lot of beautiful ones here on the west coast. This blue hue sets a wonderful mood for this subject. Those minutes at the beginning of the day are special photo opps, aren't they? Looking forward to more!

I like the wa`y the lighthouse is framed through the leaves, gives it an eerie sorta feel, as if a hand is soon going to reach out and orobably grab hold of my feeble heart (okay yes I have a fertile imagination) LOL

Also very interestingly framed in the middle of the shot. Cool

I love the framing of this shot and the coloring. This should be part of a calendar on lighthouses.

Very nice composition and colors. I'll have to get down to the shore one of these days and do some shooting.

Very nice, Laurie. I wish that we had lighthouses nearby. The closest to me are about 8 hours away ... a bit far for a morning shoot. It makes for a very long day! :-)

Lovely composition with the tall grass in front and I like your choice of limited focus.

This one really would make a good postcard. the light in the house really sells it. Great sky and perspective.
