Looking Through; East Point Lighthouse III
Well this is not exactly "looking through" in the same sense as the previous photos in the series. It's actually "looking across" the marsh on the opposite side of the lighthouse from where I shot the previous photos. At any rate, it's the last in the series featuring East Point Lighthouse, at least for now. This is my favorite view of the lighthouse. Some admissions; Yes, I played with the image. I did 2 things. 1: I added a soft layer to give the sort of sleepy dreamy effect and 2: I just didn't manage to get the light to shine the way I wanted it to so I added the light in the tower. I know it's not something I would normally do, but shrug, I will step out on the limb on occasion.
The fact that I was listening to Russell play "Claire de Lune" on piano ( I love that piece) while I was working on it might also explain why I gave the image this particular soft romantic treatment.

I think it's a beautiful image. You did a very convincing job with the light, as I thought it was part of the original capture. From a creativity standpoint, adding the soft layer wouldn't be any different than putting on a soft focus or fog filter over the lens.
Having a child that has the gift of music, such as yours, is very special. Especially, if he can creatively inspire you while he's playing, as he did here. Always, always treasure that. To this day, it is still nice to remember my parents say how they miss hearing me practice my trumpet when I was in school.
I think this was a very compositionally sound image to begin with, and your tweaks really enhanced it. The soft feel is an excellent touch. Nice work.
Gorgeous. I love this.
... the chromatic variations of the sky, the delicate light of the day, all the touches of the plain... a perfect composition!
I love it!! its so dreamy
Love the softness on this shot !
Interesting too with this light!
I like what you did with this image, the soft look does add to the romantic nature of the veiw.

Why did they put that USA flag here? It doesn't belongs here imo, best spot for flag there is to place it near the door :(
szche...I'm not sure what you think is wrong with the placement of the flag. It is in front of the door at the appropriate distance on the property. I've seldom seen flag poles at least of that height any closer. Actually if you look at the previous image you can see that it is much closer than it appears in this view.
Maybe you think it's in weeds? I can assure you that it's not even though the marsh in the foreground and the trees on the property may make it appear so.
the soft look is lovely, but what really attracts me to this is the light in the tower; that really works beautifully.
Seeing that the lighthouse was formerly owned and operated by the US Coast Guard, the flag is flown on a flagpole at the appropriate distance from the building, as is customarily done at most government/military installations. Displaying the flag on a pole near the door is usally how civilians display the flag; although, some do install flag poles in their front yard at an appropriate distance from the front of the house. Now that the lighthouse is privately owned by a non-governmental agency and is considered an historic structure, I'm sure the flagpole is still maintained at that location for historical accuracy. My question is why was the flag still being flown at dawn/dusk (whenever this photo was taken)? Proper flag etiquette calls for it to be lighted at all times, either by sunlight or artificial lighting. If no artificial lighting is available, it is to be lowered and removed before the end of each day, folded and stored appropriately, then raised again the next morning.
There's not a single thing wrong with how that flag is placed or positioned, given that it is a lighthouse and historic structure.
This is awesome. My fav so far.
Thanks Russ. Actually the beacon is still an active Navigational Aid maintained by the Coast Guard. I'm not sure how that works in terms of the structure itself and the grounds.
This was shot after sun up at about 6:35 AM. Sunrise that morning was at 5:26 AM. But either way if I remember right I believe there was a light on it. It's not visible here because it was more than an hour after sunrise. It appears earlier because it was fairly overcast to the East.
This lighthouse casts it's beacon across the Delaware Bay towards Delaware so it's a South-Westerly facing lighthouse. The sun would have been more or less to my right and behind me when I shot this...I think.
dreamy effect works beautifully...doesnt matter if u added the light...the image u captured wa sbeautiful in itself so isay wheres the harm in making it look even better...
nice, I like the light in the lighthouse - very dreamy colors :)
You caught the lamp! Well done. Ain't as easy as it looks, is it?
Just brilliant, the effects that you added work wonders here - I love the light, it adds a great focal point.

:o)
I'd say you handled it just right. It has a very nice soft summer feel to it; you can just feel the salt air.
Beautiful shot ... the added light and the dreamy features both work!!! I love the sky as well.
You stepped out and it worked perfectly! I like the glow from the soft filter, but the light ... the light is just PERFECT, Laurie. Perfect!
You did a nice job as always, Laurie. I like the addition of the light. Looks very natural. Great job!
This one is the most oneiric of your last pictures... according to my dreams. Greetings, Mariana Cuentos.
That is absolutley wonderful. A great image and the lighthouse looks magnificent. I really like the flag flying next to it.
