Where is the sun?
I can't remember the last time I saw the sun...well actually it was last Saturday. We've been in a very wet and cold weather pattern ever since though. I don't mind the rainy days, but this is starting to get to me. This wet sunflower is my attempt to persuade the sun to come out from behind those clouds and shine it's last summer rays on us.

it's a lovely shot, but hey: try living without a summer since May like we have!!
Yes, where is the sun...? Not in our country at the moment ;-) You did a great job with this one. Good framing and details of the droplets.
Brilliant color and clarity (it sounds like a diamond!). :-)
Love this macro and perspective laurie. I read that New York hit a record low yesterday of 56F. for August. That's amazing....I hope you see the sun soon. Wish I could share our 104F temp. with you right now...
wow this is amazing!
what kind of lighting and settings did you use? what did you use for the background?
why do you have two photo blogs?
just curious
:)ankush
Ankush...thanks. This was shot on my back deck in very bright sunlight with the wall of my house in deep shadow behind it. The bright sunlight caused the area behind the flower to be very underexposed which created this effect. A little levels adjustment to clean up the background was all that was needed for this one.
I have two blogs because back around December this one started to misbehave (Blogger). So I was looking for a place to migrate to when I came across Am3. Am3 is wonderful but I haven't been able to make is a .com. It doesn't yet support outside hosting although there is one person who managed it. Not sure how they did it, they weren't sure why it worked either. At any rate I just kept it and well I have 2 different audiences for them at this point. Some visit both, some only one of them.
It's not that much more work since Am3 is so easy and really such an awesome system. I don't post daily so I just sort of alternate between the two. I had started to move my archives over to Am3 from here but when Blogger got straightened out I stopped. That was a lot of work.
Beautiful shot...this is very impressive work. good job.
Clever composition. I like the strong contrast between the black background and the bright yellow of the sunflower! Excellent !
The Subster is way to impressed with this awesome shot (and a flower shot at that) :D
wow - perfect macro. great with black background.
I love the way you do this.
Ive yet to find a place to try this technique, or the sunshine for that matter. Did you try a B&W version?
padraig...You could try this anywhere where you can have bright sunlight and deep shadow. You might have to play with the image in photoshop a bit more if you cannot find the exact conditions, but I have managed this even in a field of Queen Anne's Lace. The trick really is to have a bright light colored subject and a dark shadowy background.
I always apply sharpening in the lab color lightness channel when I resize and image for the web. The lightness channel does give me some idea of wht an image will look like in B&W. This one screamed color for me. Perhaps because I just do so many black and white flower shots, I felt compelled to do these sunflowers in color. Plus we've been socked in a heavy overcast and cold rainy weather pattern since Sunday with promise of more clouds for the foreseeable future...I need some color and reminders of the sun.
Wow laurie this picture is perfect very sharp!
Beautiful picture, Laurie. As to where has all of the sun gone, it's stuck here in North Carolina. We've had more 100 degree days in the last week than we've had since I moved here 3 years ago!
beautiful image ! works perfect with the dark background - print it and hang it on your wall :)
This would cool you off on hot day. It's a refreshing picture! Sure hope your sun returns soon! Maybe it's holding out until winter?
your chromatic contrasts and the definition of the color are always exceptional !
Awww...thanks for missing me!
This picture worked for me; all I see is sun. I hope it worked for you as well!
This is my other blog:
