Pussy Willows in December's First Snow

previous / next

It is December 2 and I woke this morning to the first real snow of the season. Not a big snow but enough to cover everything with a beautiful Mantle of pure white delight. I of course was very excited. I had to go to church early to set up the coffee and goodies for Fellowship Hour. When the service ended and all the goodies were put out I went outside and got a few shots of the snow outside of the church.

There is a Pussy Willow bush/tree next to the parking lot. I thought Pussy Willows bloomed with their little fuzzy buds in the early Spring, I didn't know they could have buds in the Fall/Winter. I know there are a few gardeners who visit my site and I would love if one of you could enlighten me.

I didn't know that about pussy willows either.
I have set up for coffee hour many times at our former church. it was small and managable. With 2 services on Saturday and 3 on Sunday it just won't work. though they do put out big urns of coffee for any one that wants some. Can you believe it but we have a volunteer run Starbucks on our church campus? It does a gangbuster business too.

The second I looked at this shot I felt like I was there. I love the softness of everything, as well as how you caught just enough of the background to give it some colour. Very nicely done!

Lovely photo of first snow. I'm perplexed by the pussy willows. Have you had unusually warm weather this fall?

Laurie, pretty shot - love the tones and DOF and the flakes standing still!

I'm pretty sure that's a variety of Magnolia, not Pussy Willow. Magnolia sets its buds in autumn and they look fuzzy in the winter.

My guess is that it's Star Magnolia but I can't tell for sure from this shot.
