Foggy, Rainy, Road Trip

previous / next

This was from one of our summer road trips to go visiting colleges with Russell last summer. It was a very nasty day and we hit quite a lot of flooding on the first half of the ride...it was a bit harrowing. This was shot through my very dirty windshield. (I wasn't driving so don't yell at me.)

Russell is now just waiting to hear back from the colleges about his applications. So far we have heard from one and they have accepted him...Whew! At least we know he has someplace to go in the Fall! We are still waiting for the others to respond.

There are still some auditions for music to get through. So we will see what happens there. His main major is going to be something with biology and chemistry, but he is planning on continuing with his music whether as a minor, or double major he has not yet decided. He is sure that he wants to play in an ensemble and continue taking lessons though.

I've still been really busy. I will try to catch up with everyone soon.

Hope the little break from posting was a good one. Glad to see you back!
I love shots like this, too. Though easily done, they aren't always pulled off well. I like this one a lot.

Those look like scary driving conditions but it makes a stunning picture. I like the different curves that make up the shot.

So pretty even though it's scary when you're going through it. Your dirty windshield doesn't show at all. In fact, as I studied the image it didn't dawn on me that you were in a car. It would have eventually come to me as all things do:-), but glad you pointed that out. Sounds like your son has a wonderful future before him. As a musician, I know how that aspect of us is in our very core. Too bad so many with wonderful talents can't make a living using that talent. Perhaps he will...I hope so.

Scary driving. But those college visits are priceless. I had a great time going across the country for interviews with my youngest. (She ended up going to the hometown university - sheeesh!)

wow, this is a great B/W shot. Sometimes as you drive along or are being driven, you can see such great sights, which are always new and fresh, because of the unusual perspective it forces on you..

My niece is waiting on her uni application... testing times for our young ones!

Laurie,

This is a great shot. It is hard to tell that this was shot through a windshield.

I love to composition of the shot. I have always longed to be able to Black and White photography, as it adds so much character to picture, but alas I don't seem to have an eye for it. :)

Nice shot though.

That's a very strong shot Laurie! Diagonal lines in composition, the water particles, cars etc... One of your best imo :) Strange that you took it so long ago and didnt post earier :)
Did you burn the trees at the edges or they were so dark in the very beginning? :)

@ Szche...Thanks. The trees at the edge were pretty dark to begin with, just a little lighter than here but I did not burn them. The gradient map conversion to black and white darkened them a bit more than the original. I liked it so I left it.
