Long Shadow
previous / nextThis is a shot of the tiny Chinese Snuff bottle. This time I was experimenting with one of the snoots I made. This was the first snoot. I made 2 snoots using different materials and in differnt lenghts. The second one was better I think, not that it worked better it just fit better and was more sturdy. Here is a shot I took using the second improved snoot.
The problem with the snoots I made is that being made of cardboard and paper they aren't sturdy enough to shove in my bag every day. They don't collapse flat for portability. Now if I was more ambitious I would make one that is portable, but instead I went and bought the one from Lumiquest which folds nice and flat and is made of more durable materials. I can see where I might want to use the snoot "out in the field" to experiment as a supplement to natural light. I think there could be some interesting possibilities there. So that's when I decided to ge the Lumiquest snoot.

Very pretty. During the past couple of weeks I've been taking photos of things around the house, but haven't posted any of them except Meghan:-)
Having a lot of fun with the new lighting toys, eh? :D
Nicely done Laurie⦠like always
Very nice long shadow effect, Laurie. Experimenting is so much fun. I played around with DIY snoots like you're doing and then went to the Lumiquest snoot which I keep in my bag all the time. Now, if they would make one with an adjustable aperture so you could control the width of the light beam that's produced, that would be Sweeeet! I also have a couple Lumiquest mini softboxes that I use for portraiture that are useful when I need to soften the flash and can't bounce it (like outdoors or for events).
"It's alive"!...very nice Laurie!
Wonderful shot....love the off-center placing of the center-piece ... and the long shadow ...
Beautiful. looks lovely!
Nice shadow play, but I think it would have worked better in black and white!
Now that's one amazing shadow. Fantastic!
Beautiful shot, Laurie!
Cool shot. I need to spend some time with this type of deal.
