Emerging from the Shadows of Winter
previous / nextIn the coming weeks I will be looking for the elusive early signs of Spring that appear as early as mid-late February. I have had my fill of winter this year. It's been a dull and dismal winter without even a decent snowstorm to redeem it.
We had a couple of inches last week that quickly became a slushy mess as the snow changed to heavy rains which caused lots of flooding, terrible slippery conditions, and travel nightmares.
This morning gave me hope as I was awakened early by a birdsong, the kind which I usually hear as Spring draws near. Soon I will see my first Robin and soon after that the early flowers.
This photo was shot in early March 2007 when I was in Georgia visiting my son before he left for Iraq. It's hard to believe it's been almost a year. Looking back it seems like yesterday, but living it day to day, seems like forever.
There are delicate early Spring flowers similar to these that grow wild in the woods near my house which I will be looking for with much anticipation in the coming weeks.

This image is so sharp and crisp. Very pretty indeed. I'm with you: this winter has been a forgettable one and has been simply miserable and dull. I'll be looking for an early spring, too. I hope Rob is safe and doing well in Iraq and is home soon. God Bless Him.
great pic, we have started to see the first blossom in some of the trees here...
:o)
T
simply beautiful, also with the DOF.
Superbe macro :-)
A beautiful flower. I hope your son comes home very soon, as untouched by harm as the beauty of this new bloom.
Emergence. A lovely concept.
I would gladly give you some of our snow.... We have had a great season if you are a skier, which I am not anymore. I too am looking forward to spring, it cannot come quick enough.
I pray your son returns home safe and sound.
BTW, love the picture.
Regards,
Denear
Laurie, I agree...It's been a very long winter. I'll look forward to seeing your sunny photos. Here in the northwest, we've had several days of springlike weather (cold but sunny) and my crocus are poking through the soil. I hope they won't freeze before spring!
Nice lighting on this photo. Hope your son is OK. It must be hard.
Beautiful closeup Laurie. The promise of Spring can really lift the spirits. Come to my blog and see our first spring blossoms.
Thinking of you today and your son Rob, and praying for his health and safety.
I like the look of this. Excellent lighting. Sharp detail.
Nice clarity in this image.
absolutely wonderful, almosst quintessential...this reminds me, i must go shooting soon, flowers dont blossom too often, and when they do its not for too long...
