Old Barrel

previous / next

This is just an old barrel I found in New Hope PA. I love the textures and patina in old wood. I actually had a quandary as to whether to go with color or black and white. But I am a sucker for black and white.

I will let you be the judge though. I have chosen to post both here and leave it up to you. Which one do you like better, color or black and white?

Black and white for me, no contest, the detail and contrast is great. I also love the house in the background, I wish we had houses like that over here!

I like the B & W but I think that the photograph would be much better if you cropped it with only the barrel showing. The rest detracts from the image.

Ah, old stuff ... what would it do without us photographers and painters! :-) I love the black and white, too!

I'm torn between both, too. I love them both. I think including some of the background does NOT detract from the barrel. I think including it shows the setting that it is in. But perhaps, use shallower DOF to throw more of the background out of focus yet leave a hint to its setting.

I always loved color until I started processing my photos. Then b&w seemed to be such an art form.. I love the b&w now. And the barrel is a perfect texture for it.
I like the background, too. I like to have a sense of wholeness in the photo - does that comment make sense???

Both are great Laurie but i think I have to go with the black and white. I find the house sort of distracting in the color one. B&W shows the texture more which I really love.

I really like the B&W more. Gives more depth and sharpness to the picture.

Don't get too close with a spark or this thing is a puff of smoke.

I love Raffaello but I also love Monet. How could I choose? Every thing has its beauty its suggestion.
I choose not to choose!

Love the b&w; this adds punch to the shot. Besides has wonderful contrast and shows the grains of the wood. Excellent work.

I am trying to figure out which theme do you use to display your blog with big pics on blogspot.com?

Cheers!

Both images are superb and it's definitely a wonderful capture, but since you asked, I prefer the color one. The peach colored house with the brown hues of the barrel are lovely.

I personally like the B&W more. The color of the house, while I like it, takes away from the main subject.Really nice detail and texture on the barrel.
