Unlocked

previous / next

A couple of weeks ago I was just shooting a few things around the house. This is my cellar door latch. The ambient light from my front door was illuminating the old wood and latch. For whatever reason it just caught my eye.

The original image appeared black and white on the LCD screen of my camera to the point where I thought the settings had somehow been changed to black and white. They hadn't but there was so little color in the image, only the slightest hint of the old red/brown maple stain on the old door. I had intended to convert this to black and white and for a moment I thought the camera had started reading my mind!

News:

This photo of the Bucknell Quad is a 2 page feature photo in the Summer 2008 issue of Bucknell Magazine.

As of July 2008 I have decided to post the same photos on "Parallel Universe" as I do here. It has become too complicated to maintain two different photoblogs on a regular basis. Feel free to visit "Parallel Universe" and look through the portfolio/archives since there are quite a few photos there that were never posted here. I will continue to post on both since each one gets different viewers.

Check out my other Photoblog portfolio/archives:

Parts of doors seem to always make for evocative photos - they hit a metaphorical level in addition to being a good subject.

the light is beautiful and this looks so natural i assumed it was a color photo of a b/w moment.

As others said already, I also like the use of shallow dof and how the reflected light brings up the structures. A good choice for the use of b/w too.
