GWB in Black and White
previous / nextI really need to thank everyone for the overwhelming response to the previous image. It received an amazing 78 comments at last count, 25 here and 53 over at Capture This Photography 2 (formerly known as Parallel Universe) I am really, really flattered by the amazing response it received. Thank you!
Now I have a hard act to follow I suppose...Hmmm...
I really don't know where to start with my backlog of images, but I don't want to post every day either. I like posting every other day because I find it more manageable.
I picked this one of the George Washington Bridge to start moving away from Jersey City. I love this bridge and there is a wonderful park that runs next to the river on the Jersey side and under the bridge. This was actually taken a few weeks before the Jersey City photos but I was anxious to do the Jersey City series so I set it aside.
The weather was not great that day and in fact we got caught in a violent storm as we were driving out of the park which made it a little scary with all the tree branches falling, the rain wind, lighting and thunder, and the sheer cliffs next to us. I felt worse for the bicyclers and hikers that got caught in the storm.

As of July 2008 I have decided to post the same photos on "Parallel Universe" as I do here. It has become too complicated to maintain two different photoblogs on a regular basis. Feel free to visit "Parallel Universe" and look through the portfolio/archives since there are quite a few photos there that were never posted here. I will continue to post on both since each one gets different viewers. I have also changed the title of Parallel Universe to Capture This Photography 2.

I think this is a wonderful image, the balance between the dark and the light tines are just right. I also like the framing done with the foreground, it really give the image some depth. One day I'll be able to see the east coast.

Great b&w shot. I love the composition and I feel the weather changing. Always a pleasure looking at your posts.
Un beau passage vers l'autre rive, bravo !
Great image!
That's one splendid bridge shot. Great tones and perspective. From the land of the Golden Gate...I've seen a lot of bridge photos and this is a nice one.
Impressive bridge...not easy to capture something as long.
nice expansive feeling
This is a fine bridge shot. I like the lighting and your processing which gives the bridge maximum impact. Well done.
I really like the perspective of this image and where you've set it all up. Good choice for black and white.
Very moody. The water looks frozen (or like glass).
Perceptible from this point of view, appears this bridge, mingling several element, for one big of the black towards the bench, blends of grey, very much clever.
Stunning, Laurie. The B&W was the perfect choice!
I love it!! Perfect b&w processing on this one.
Splendid and very graphic, this image is perfect in B&W.
nice view of this impressive bridge, well composed.
Just love the view of that bridge...it´s a nice one...
