Garden Bench

previous / next

This is another shot from Breuer Hill - built c. 1800 in Princeton's Battlefield-Stony Brook Settlement Historic District. I just love benches. I do spend more time photographing them than actually sitting on them.

News:

This photo of the Bucknell Football field is a 2 page feature photo in the Fall 2008 issue of Bucknell Magazine.

This photo of the Bucknell Quad is a 2 page feature photo in the Summer 2008 issue of Bucknell Magazine.

As of July 2008 I have decided to post the same photos on "Parallel Universe" as I do here. It has become too complicated to maintain two different photoblogs on a regular basis. Feel free to visit "Parallel Universe" and look through the portfolio/archives since there are quite a few photos there that were never posted here. I will continue to post on both since each one gets different viewers. I have also changed the title of Parallel Universe to Capture This Photography 2.

Check out my other Photoblog portfolio/archives:

Looks like a perfect spot for a bench with the size of that huge tree trunk.

Very nice composition. I like the lighting and the way the weathered bench is captured. Its simple and artistic Laurie.

I think the tree is a little too dominating, especially because the image is called garden bench! :-)

@ Claus...lol

I called it "Garden Bench" because, although it is under the tree, the tree is located in the formal gardens of the Breuer Hill estate.

Benches are always a great thing to photograph -- many a great photographer have done the same thing -- I just love them, too!

Can you imagine how I miss such a bench under a tree in the autumn sun? Since one week I am in China, and I have to admit that I am not the type for this kind of madly growing cities, pollution, noise...

Your picture includes all I also cherish: there is shadow, long shadow meaning the sun is low already, the bench is not new but probably already has its history, the tree is big and solid, deeply rooted, sheltering - a picture I could imagine to jump in and savour the very moment. Thanks for this.

Markus

I love the sense of scale the tree gives to the bench. It almost looks tiny. Looks like a great spot to sit in the sun.
