Number 40
This was shot on Saturday afternoon in New Hope PA. It is the New Hope Ivyland Steam Train as it gets ready to take tourists on another run. It is quite a charming scene especially this time of year with Thanksgiving having just passed and Christmas just around the corner.

As of July 2008 I have decided to post the same photos on "Parallel Universe" as I do here. It has become too complicated to maintain two different photoblogs on a regular basis. Feel free to visit "Parallel Universe" and look through the portfolio/archives since there are quite a few photos there that were never posted here. I will continue to post on both since each one gets different viewers. I have also changed the title of Parallel Universe to Capture This Photography 2.

This is a really nice shot. There are no modern elements to distract from the Olde Tyme feel. A little desaturation and grain and I'd swear you were an old woman remembering her train ride to the old west!
I missed you iby just a couple of hours, Laurie. I was admiring this same train on Saturday evening as Carol and I were strolling through New Hope. Great shot!
Which is well on your blog, your photo gives better than at Aminus3, you have more pix
Great shot Laurie!
So much to see.
Nice atmosphere and composition.
Have a nice Sunday..

charming and a bit romanticizing, captured in a wonderful light and a tight and stringent composition. I guess this time of the year we all love some remembrance of the good (visual) aspects of the old days. At least I do.
Beautiful image.
I love these old steam trains! And you captured it perfectly, with the machinist hanging out :)
Laurie, this image is simply perfect
Perfect for the focus and the narrow DOF that gives D to the picture
Perfect for the lighting and the reflections on the tender carriage
Perfect for the expression of the driver looking backwards
You are a pro !
a charming scene indeed! and i'm glad it's a big photo, too. I can really appreciate the details and the sense of proportion in the photo. thank you for sharing!
Trains are always appealing and this is a fine action shot of one. I especially like the wisp of smoke which gives the picture a very authentic feel. Fine image.
Wow! This is great! Perfect lighting, composition and color. Awesome shot and I love it!
excellent shot ... beautiful light!
Oh, what lovely light in this! Such a charming subject, too. I will have to visit New Hope some time soon. Haven't been since I was a little girl...
Love the lighting and the way the sun makes the train glow. I would love to ride that in such a beautiful area.
Very nostalgic. Love the warm quality of light. Really nice!!

Really a wonderful composition. Love the reflections of the warm sunlight.

A beautiful shot, of #40. I really like the nice light on the side of the train. I wonder why the engineer is looking back? It's not like anything can damage his train! ;-)
very nice composed, I think it's also a strong photo when it's B&W.
A classic, perfectly composed image. Just brilliant, Laurie!
