On the Wall
My first post from my D700. (I am trying larger images here. I apologize to those with smaller screens. I may revert to the smaller size depending on feedback. Smaller versions will continue on my other site.)
This was shot at Breuer Hill - built c. 1800 in Princeton's Battlefield-Stony Brook Settlement Historic District. It is part of the gardens on the beautiful property.
It is quite different from the D200. It reacts very differently in terms of how it renders colors and meters exposure. It is much more accurate than the D200...hence I will have to take time getting used to it. My D200 tended to have flatter colors and tended toward underexposure. The D700 is the exact opposite. The colors are so vibrant and I am tending toward overexposing.
The menus are very familiar but they moved one or two things and I have had to hunt for them a little, but I suppose I will adjust.
The low light is way beyond what I imagined it would be. I really bought the camera for that very reason and it really performs beyond what I had hoped even at ISO 6400 I get AMAZING images. Here is a quick unedited example of ISO 6400 in low light. I did post this link a few days ago but wanted to show the example again. As you can see it is an extremely usable image.
There is very little in terms of post processing needed. Pretty much all I've done was RAW conversion in Lightroom. I have only used CS2 to resize images so far. I know that I probably don't even need to do that but I am used to doing it that way because I usually do curves adjustments but haven't needed to do any curves on these images. I tried doing some but tossed them because the original still looked better. Old habits die hard though.
Today is election day so for all those who can legally do it...
Don't forget to VOTE!
Pssssst...tomorrow is my youngest son's 16th Birthday!!! I can hardly believe it! Time just flew by!
Happy Birthday Jon!

As of July 2008 I have decided to post the same photos on "Parallel Universe" as I do here. It has become too complicated to maintain two different photoblogs on a regular basis. Feel free to visit "Parallel Universe" and look through the portfolio/archives since there are quite a few photos there that were never posted here. I will continue to post on both since each one gets different viewers. I have also changed the title of Parallel Universe to Capture This Photography 2.

Great pic, I agree with what you are saying I am find the with my move from the D50 to the D300... colour richness etc.. but as it's a Nikon it's the same but different...
the next big step for me is RAW, but I can see you are getting great results...
:o)
T
i love the bokeh on this image, and wow, that other image you shared was really clear, it's amazing.
i've always wanted to try shooting in RAW, is it really better? i guess the best way to find out is to try it. :)
happy birthday to your son. :)
EXCELLENT RESULT HERE. WONDERFUL DOF TOO. AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JON.
Une plante acrobate, bravo !
Wow love the DOF! Looks like your new camera is going to take some GREAT photos!
Your new camera's pictures are impressive. The high ISO shot is impressive for its smoothness and lack of noise. Very nice images.
So Laurie,I am just at home and I see a very nice photo made by you!
Great and the colors are beutifull.
NANNE from FRIESLAND

Wow I really like this shot and the quality of the image is amazing. Excellent photo!
Great DOF! Looks like you and this camera are going to have a long, happy relationship. I like the larger image!
Congrats to your son on his birthday. My youngest turned 18 a couple of weeks ago! Where does the time go?
life grow anywhere!
nice capture.
I love this shot! Such a commonplace subject matter is elevated to an impressive art form in this image! Excellent!!!
And
Happy Birthday to Jon!!!
very good diagonal // I love tone colour and nice DOF // Regards from Yogyakarta Indonesia //
Excellent sharpness, colors, and clarity in your new D700. I tell everyone I get a new digital camera every 3 years or less and they find that hard to believe. However, I have a D300 and when I read the specs on the D700, I said wow wish I had the D300 for 3 years. Great camera, good luck with it.
cette photo est magnifique
WOW! wonderful colours and lovely composition! so nice
This is a good example, why I love fullframe cameras ;) The dof here is very nice, happy to see more from you :)
The size i great, well at least on my large screen ;)
Congratulations on the camera :) And keep up the bigger ones! Yeah!
Congrats on the D700. We got one of those a few weeks ago and first impressions are like yours. In addition, we feel it has another level of "sharpness" compared to the D300 and D200 using the same lenses.
Oh, and great capture (turned ito a gearhead there for a while). The contrast between life and wall is excellent and underlined by the light.
I just saw that you used the D700 for this. How do you like it!? I'm about to get one for gradution.
D700, wow! Congrats on that. I didn't know they even made them, well I guess I am suck in 1942 with my box camera ;)
Hi Laurie... how exciting about your new camera! The low-light image is unbelievable. Just so you know, I personally really like the larger images.
Love the gracefulness of the weed against the fall color... lovely capture.
Happy Birthday, Jon!
beautiful lines here
Congrats for your new toy...wow the D700... I ned some serious money before I do the upgrade from my D200.
Enjoy !
Beautiful and amazing that something can grow from a wall :)
hey..!
long time laurie,
nice to see all these wonderful shots,
I've been thinking of upgrading my D100 to a D700,but since i'm not shooting commercially at all,i dont know if i can justify the cost..! i'm in quite a soup really.
haha,
anyhow,
I needed it mostly for its low light capabilities, and well, its full frame..!
