Abandoned Mural

previous / next

This is from the Deserted Village taken the same day as the previous shot. I shot through the window of one of the dilapidated structures. The porch, or rather what little was left of it, was fenced off and the building boarded up except for the windows.

Mark spotted this mural as I was wandering around the other side of the old structure. I had to shoot at an odd angle to get he mural from as close as I could get to the house. I don't know when this house was last inhabited. It is interesting to ponder when this mural was done and who the artist was...

Wow, that's great! Layers of reality. I like the out of focus foreground with the reflection on that piece of glass in the window frame.

Nice framing with the window, and a green window for even extra interest. Interesting about the mural, too. It does look rather old.

LOL. It took me a minute to realize that was glass in the window causing a reflection and not a ghost moving around inside. Neat shot!

Very nice 3-d feeling to this photo. I was in North Carolina this week and on the 1 hour drive back to the airport we drove past a dozen or so very old overgrown houses in various stages of decay, some abandoned, and some ... well apparently still being lived in, a photographer's dream. Unfortunately I knew my coworkers don't share my enthusiasm about such things, so I kept driving.

For whatever reason, the painting reminds me of something you might see in ancient Egypt. I guess that it has to do with the colors used and the aging process. Very nice!
