Detritus

previous / next

I had not originally planned on posting this shot as it seemed a little too chaotic to me and I usually prefer to focus on details for places like this...but the more I came across it the more it had grown on me.

This is a broad view of the inside of the barn barn in "Shivering". You can see the poor little stuffed bear from "Fragile" on the floor in the foreground and it is also where the photo "Silk Flowers and Rough Edges" which was off to my right and not visible here was shot. I took the shot from the large doorway, or what was left of it anyway. I think what caught my eye initially was the ladder which seemed to stand defiantly among the decay and detritus. I also love the patina of the old wood.

I did not use flash for this although it kind of looks like I did. It was shot a little before 4PM on a pretty overcast day while a light snow was falling. Ambient light and light reflected off the snow was coming through doorways and gaping holes in the walls. I applied curves adjustments to balance tone and contrast.

Clearly a 'fix me up' opportunity. The large view works as well as the detail that you have been sharing...

I love this one Laurie and I'm particularly impressed by the great balance of all the mains elements in the composition.

One might say it is chaotic but the truth is that this image is so well organized by your composition that the chaos disappears and turns to be a perfectly balanced appealing photo.

You've managed to rule chaos, Laurie :)

Chaos can be very beautiful and this is it. Well captured. Nice textures all around.

I like the very strong intersecting lines of the beams, contrasted with the"chaos" below... also there is something about the light which draws you in.

And, of course, it is a statement about the mutability of life -- it evokes a little sadness...

Really a nice shot - even if the motif isn't that appealing, but you know - some of us are great fans of decay and worn out places.... :-)
We like the light coming through the walls, the different texture, all the levels -
Nice work - and D700 is good for iso 4000 and more to!

Did a tornado go through here?? Man what a mess!

A bit of a shame to leave such a mess behind like that... but I admit it makes for a good image.

This reminds me a little of my son's room. I'm really impressed most by the perfect clarity at iso 4000!

Nice shot. You're certainly not afraid to get a little dirty for photos. Wow... so many ways to read that. Which will you choose?

Although very messy, it is well composed. I find myself looking throughout the photo.

Within and outside, the calm and the chaos, the water and the fire… every medal has a double face. Difficult to say which I prefer

Chaos is a part of life and should be recorded. I like that there is lots of detail to explore.

I like the "strewn" nature of this place. It offers so much to see and investigate. Your exposure worked out beautifully with a nice glow into the most distant point in the picture. Very well done.

Very well balanced tonal range. There are so many details in places like this.
Of course you should post it.

There is a lot of wood on this space, but check, wood is a noble equipment as this composition.

I agree that it's great to focus on a few details, but this one gives a much broader range of the feeling. So much was left behind - did the people just walk out, or did they no longer find value in these things and the place? Gorgeous photography!

A very cool place you have found here, it just needs some cleaning ;-).. I think if you converted it into black and white or a tinted version it would have more impact!
