Balic Winery

previous / next

This was shot on Sunday at the Balic Winery Booth at the NJ Home show. It was a little too early to do any wine tasting but the bottles sure looked pretty. The home show was pretty quiet from what I could see but with economic times being what they are I was not surprised.

Nikon D700
Nikkor 28-70mm f2.8
1/160 second
F/2.8
ISO 1100
62 mm

*Note...I decided that the image was too reflective in the original post...so I went in and added a little Orton effect to soften some of the glare from the lights.

An observation and a small vent. Music on websites...drives me nuts!!! Let me explain. I listen to my iTunes when I am working and browsing blogs. I like my music, I like all sorts of music. from the classical to rock to pop to standards. Now I don't mind that people want to share their music with me on their sites...but...I am driven crazy when it automatically runs when the page opens. It competes with my iTunes and usually ends up sounding like a mess when mixed with what I am already playing. Add that to the fact that I usually open 20 blogs in tabs, several of which have music embedded and it REALLY makes a terrible racket and drives me to turn my sound off all together until I can locate the offending site(s). I don't mind that people want music on their sites...but is there a way to make it so that it does not automatically start when the page opens..It is driving me insane...lol...not really but it is annoying.

This is one of the most beautiful product shots i've seen lately Laurie. Composition, bokeh and use of DOF are just perfect. I've been looking at it over and over again.
Your photos might be the reason for me to start saving for this 24-70 lens.

@drAjao..no sharpening was done...it was in a very large convention center with lots of overhead lights. These convention centers really tend to make shiny reflective surfaces sparkle. The sparkle of the bottles is what caught my eye at this booth.

Cool. The dof is pretty awesome on this and I love the smudgy outlines of the other bottles. Nice blacks as well :-)

I really like the composition, but I would have liked to see more detail in such a product shot, and not such a shallow depth of field.

@Claus...Thanks...technically it isn't a product shot..it was purely artistic. If it were a product shot it would have been shot with controlled lighting and probably in my studio.

I was at a home show at a large convention center. It was mostly building contractors, Kitchen designers, siding and roofing contractors, landscapers, plumbing and heating contractors, and for some odd reason some random vendors like this wine booth, a gourmet pet food booth, and even a caterer had a booth there. It was kind of an odd combination of vendors.
