Working on the Railroad
previous / nextI am continuing to make my way through the backlog of images that I had not posted but intended to. This is from November in New Hope Pennsylvania and the New Hope Ivyland Railraod. These are the guys that run things. From the looks of it they were changing shifts. These guys always look happy so it is my guess that they love what they do.

Lovely image, they really seams happy, and watching them I automaticly smiled...
how not to be happy when you can still play like a child?
beautiful engine shot
Love the smoke rising from the engine. This picture tells a story almost and is setup beautifully.
if the rest of your backlog is of such quality, then I retire from photography LoL
it's excellent!
I like this shot and the subdude colors. I always like shooting pictures of trains and we have a great historic train museum here in Sacramento.
I love the that it is big on the screen. Makes it so life like.
that's really a beautiful shot!
it's really important to love what you're doing.. now if only someone would pay me to take pictures around the world.. hmm.. :D great capture!
Great capture ... playing with a big toy ;-)
So what a great surprice, Laurie!!!
An old train! A very nice photo!
In may 2008 I placed an item and photos of an old train too....! You can find them in the Archief of May 2008, on my site.
greetings,
Nanne from FRIESLAND
This is a really nice timeless image!
Fantastic colours on this one (don't know if it's the processing or your exposures, but the blacks really squeeze out the blues/purples and I love that about it). Bravo
@Ian...Thanks...I adjusted the white balance toward cooler tones in the RAW conversion in Lightroom and if I remember right I adjusted the curves in LAB color which I do from time to time.
Your train beats our train - at least in the "shiny and well cared for" department. Nice shot
love the steam in this and all that denim with the shiny black finish of the train. i love train photos.
It's not often we see working steam engines lie this. What a cool photo!
This photo gives me envy to set steam engine you are one photographer in underskirt which offers some emotion .
I just love these old trains, somehow they give off a more powerful expression than the newer ones!
What a beautiful old train and atmosphere with the smoke.
Child, with my brother we looked down from the bridg at steam engines, then we had many black tracks on the face.
I like very much this photo
I like this engine shot very much with its steam and smoke. The action in the shot adds much to the enjoyment. The fellow looking down from above and the two talking. Very nice image.
well, this is wonderful and you know it...
nice shot ... oldie but goldie :)
Really interesting and seemingly contrasting layers of era between the foreground and background. those guys and engine look like they could be from many decades ago while they housing in back seems contemporary.
I love the whole story that's going on here. Great coloring!
Gorgeous, Laurie! Those men are in love with that engine!!
Wow I really like this one Laurie! What a grand old train!
wow - almost a cibachrome look with that deep, fat black. I might have tried to brighten the shadows, but I must admit here this black works excellently!
@ Markus Spring...Thanks. The original had a lot of detail throughout, including detail in the deepest shadows. I chose to lose detail in those shadow areas because for me this shot was about those men and their interaction. The original is actually very different from the final image, which is somewhat of a departure for me since I typically tend toward more moderate processing. I even went back and revisited the original today to have a look and I was quite surprised to be reminded of how much different it looks.
LOVE this one Laurie!!! Endless possibilities!!!
Jerry in Tampa :-))
I think most of us are seduced by steam - it always seems so very physical.
I think if I were ever to go back to a digital camera (BIG IF :-) ) - I'd have to go with this one -- man is it nice -- smooth tones and beautiful rendering of color...
I love trains. This picture is just one of those slice of life shots like you might see in National Geographic.
@Alvis...Thanks...If only! :)
beautiful shot. love the steam and the smoke, and the smiles!
Nice reflections on thses locomotives. I love the idea of the power that these machines are able of
