Gentle Currents

previous / next

I'm still finding things in my archives that have been too long overlooked. This is from last August in Ken Lockwood Gorge. I thought it was interesting to catch the little bit of current at the water's edge where it seemed like there was no current at all. This was an 8 second exposure and shot in the afternoon.

Nikon D200
Nikkor 28-70mm f2.8
8 seconds
F/22.0
ISO 100
70 mm

Wonderful photo with exceptional detail and tonality.

Were you using any type of ND filter or did stopping down to F/22 at ISO100 provide the 8 sec exposure?

@Earl...thanks...I stacked 2 polarizing filters on the lens as a substitute for the ND filter. So that combined with stopping it down made the exposure possible.

Love the long exposure! It makes such a contrast with the rocks under the still water and the motion!

Ooh, what a fantastic effect you've caught here. In addition to resembling a brilliant burst of white "fire", that channel between the rocks reminds me of a lens. And I love the little details on the surface, just hovering over the browny/golden floor of the stream. Wonderful image :-)

Your exposure seems right on to produce such a fine water appearance. I especially like the streaming effect at the left. Beautiful shot.

Nice. The water almost looks like a cold and wet version of a blast furnace.
