Keep Out!

previous / next

It said Keep Out but the people we saw working at the fishing docks didn't mind if I had a look around and took some pictures, as long as I kept them out of it.

Beautiful DOF. I like to go to visit fishing harbors and go on those peers...

the one who sticked those 'keep out' notices must have been an art director to make such a great composition of that labels :)
fantastic shot

I love your processing of this shot. It has an interesting dynamic going on - obviously the signs, but the open dock just looks so inviting. Decisions, decisions.

That is a pretty subtle message.

Quite intimidating! And in the U.S. you really mean it... The shallow DoF works great here, bouncing back the view following the banister towards the boats.

This image is messing with me - third attempt to leave my words - the first was very long, I shall persevere! Laurie, probably my favourite shot of yours, love the clarity, colour and use of the depth of field. However, I feel that sharpening is spoiling this for me - the line that sharpening leaves around objects is very visible on the posts that obviously don't need sharpening given they are blurred. I'd love to see the image with either no sharpening or perhaps selective sharpening on the sign.
I hope you don't mind me saying, I just feel the shot is a cracker and that is detracting slightly.

@ Phil...I noticed what you were talking about and it isn't from sharpening. It is a luminosity issue from too much contrast in the sky that created some halo around the poles against the sky. I bulk edited a batch and didn't take care in checking them as closely as I should have. I have been insanely busy and edited and queued posts to automatically post for about a month. I went back in to this one and corrected the issue by lowering the contrast in the curve. I also warmed it up from what had posted and it more closely resembles the warm light that I remember when I shot the original. Thanks for your thoughtful observations. :)

Seriously amazing shot, I love the composition and how your eye automatically goes to the sign. Great job!

The shallow depth here really makes you focus on the sign, and I guess it's a bit intimidating.

I really like the DOF in this shot focusing on the signs but still able to make out some of the beautiful background beyond!

Very cool shot, the signs look almost comedic but serious at the same time. Very nice colors.
