Pink Profusion
previous / nextThis is the weeping cherry tree in my front yard. I shot this a couple of weeks ago on a rather windy afternoon. It took a bit of patience especially shooting at f1.4. It is my favorite flowering tree. I almost lost this tree a couple of years ago after we discovered that our underground oil storage tank had leaked.
We had to have all the contaminated soil removed which left a hole that was about 3o' x 3o' x 14' deep in my front yard. I lost almost all of my landscaping, my driveway front steps and most of my sidewalk. I thought for sure I was going to lose the tree but it fell only a few feet short of that. I am so happy that it did not have to be dug up. It took quite a beating but has recovered beautifully. Oh, and I have a front lawn for the first time in 3 years. Next I have to re-plant some shrubs, and flowers. The entire remediation process took nearly 3 years to complete from the date of discovery to the date that we received our all clear "No Further Action" letter from the state EPA.
I've been crazy busy the past few weeks and haven't been able to respond as much or visit as many of you all as I usually try to do. I must apologize for my absence. Things should settle down a bit when concert season is over, which is in the next couple of weeks. Then I should be able to get into a more regular routine. I've had my blogs on auto post for the most part for the past few weeks because of my schedule.

This is absolutely stunning, Laurie! A perfect Spring image!!
My goodness what a story behind this great Springtime photo.
lovely hues, i love the bokeh. :) I'd love to see something like this everytime i look out the widow, such a happy burst of pink. :)
I LOVE all this pink...your use of dof here is so good! Amazing...
Wow. Very pretty in pink! Sorry about the soil contamination ordeal. How'd that happen?
@Mindy...Thanks. We had oil heat and a 1000 gallon underground storage tank that was original to the house...from 1948. Time wore it out. We found out about the leak when the insurance company that covered the tank was going to discontinue carrying residential storage tank policies. They notified us in Aug. 2005 that they would not renew us in Dec. when the policy came up for renewal. We found a new carrier but they insisted on testing the tank and the soil. Needless to say we failed. We never had any signs of a leak other than the failed testing, so it was quite a shock and a nightmare which if it weren't for the insurance would likely have bankrupted us. It was such an awful stressful time. I'm so glad it is finally behind us.
Wow simply stunning colors and shot! We have a weeping cherry tree too but sadly it hardly has any flowers :( Its only a few years old though maybe it takes awhile?
@Andy...thanks. I don't remember how many years it took for the tree to establish. I do remember that it had blooms when it was planted as a young tree but the following ear was more sparse. Last year and the year prior it was more bare but I think it had suffered a shock to the root system when half of it's roots got dug up. It returned to its glory this year. The tree has been there for about 15 years now.
Great colors and depth of field.
Such a colour infusion and good news about the tree at least.
Always very nice to visit your site! Such a very great photo of this nice flower, Laurie!

extraordinary focus. reminds me of the lensbaby effect. i absolutely love it. congrats
What an abundance, what a symphony in pink. Looks wonderfull with that shallow DoF. And I do fully understand that you were fearing for your tree - maybe that's why you got so beautifully remunerated.
Wonderful colors!
The DOF give a very powerful dimension to the capture.
Perfect done.
Bravo.
Yvon.
Excellent dof and beautiful colors.
Beautiful image. I've been trying for a week or so to get a shot like that, and I just can't. I see you shot at f1.4. My (kit)telephoto max aperture is f4-5.6. (: Some day...
Excellente picture Laurie. I really love it.
A truly beautiful weeping cherry tree, the colors are gorgeous. Excellent capture, love the selective focus. Great shot with the 50mm lens, the clarity is amazing.
Nice work taking advantage of the shallow DOF, the colors are also very appealing.
A pure symphony ecrusted in the beautiful color of pink. This picture is amazing!
Hang in there Laurie, we'll still be here. Sometimes life just takes first place.
I love this pink cascade. Beautiful.
Effectively Laurie you were right to take the shot on this cherry tree so beautiful, we are short of smell .Mais that I like and defers him plan, which offers a grand miracle, a work of precision.
a very beautifull pink Lady, your picture is just gorgeous!
Perfect capture of the pink here and that f/1.4 really does cast a delightfully thin focus.
Marvelous snap.
Oh Laurie, I am in love with this photo -- absolutely glorious!
amazing composition, i love how the colors just fill up the picture.
stunning shot!! i really like it
A beautiful close up of these colorful blossoms. I'm glad the tree came back so prolifically. The f1.4 gave you a wonderful blur, but supportive background with the same colors and a tad of blue. Very well done.
De ravissantes couleurs bien douces, bravo j’adore.
Autumn with it's glorious colors is my favorite time of year to simply enjoy the colors. But spring, as you've shown us here, rivals the autumnal colors.
What a beautifully, soft, pink composition! Just lovely!
A perfect Spring image Laurie!
absolutely stunning,so soft...

sorry to hear about the oil leak, what a nightmare! I'm happy that you could keep the tree. This picture is wonderful, I love it. The shallow DOF gives it a dreamy feel.
I looooove the color here! Is it post processed?!
@iVahid...Thanks. That is the trees natural color. It is a lovely soft pink when it blooms but they don't last very long.
beautiful colors and use of DOF
wow, 3 years - that sounds like quite a process, must feel good to finally have it all done with though. i am glad the tree did not have to be removed.
wow! awesome burst of color here! it's good you got to preserve this tree.. that sounds like a costly leak.. tsk3.. well, great shot! :)
I'm really not into flower shots, but, this is just delightful, Laurie.
stunning!
The color here is so delicious. I'm glad you were able to save this beauty!
