Cell Block 5
This is another in the series of images from Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia PA. This place was a treasure trove of photo ops. Such interesting light and textures, and such a grim mood there, yet at the same time totally captivating. It was such an odd juxtaposition. I felt excited by the possibilities and yet the gloom did instill a creepy uneasy feeling.
This was taken on a photo meet up with Betsy Barron, Dan Creighton, Pat Shorten, Ed Heaton, Kelly Heaton, Paul Michko, Lindsay, Russ Devan, Russell Jackson, and Mark (Sherpa) Jackson, at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia PA on June 5, 2009. It was raining and nasty out which was the perfect weather to be in this place. Check out the slideshow page for more.

Check out my new slideshow page. The link is here and at the top and bottom of every page. I am testing out several formats for the slideshows each with their own advantages and disadvantages. It will be an evolving process and I will add new ones from time to time. I hope you will stop by and check them out and feel free to leave me some feedback.
I want to take a moment to express my sympathies for the people of Iran during such turbulent times. I hope and pray that they have their voices heard and that the terrible violence against them is ended. I am including some links in this post at the request of a fellow photoblogger.

Such an old building, a kind of prison!
greeting,
NANNE from FRIESLAND
This is an impressive capture of that seemingly endless and abandoned corridor. Great perpective, Laurie.
it's indeed a texture treasure.. :D love this.. nice work! :)
Wonderful light and textures; love that vanishing point!
A well closed space, and a beautiful photo!
Photographically great combination of light and exposure, textures of decay and colors of grime. Good translation of the furor, the disappointment, the grief, the angst...
Guess the mood in this building is hard to bear, even after it's unused for quite some time
superbe endroit, et belle image.
I'm not normally an urban decay kind of guy but this is just beautiful. Very interesting with the light, textures and the endless hall way. Excellent shot!
really strong use of the central perspective here - makes it feel like the prison sentences were without end.
The perspective on this is perfect. And the shadows extend the bars onto the floor-lots for the eye to explore.
The #5 sign looks so new and bright compared with the rest of the place. Interesting textures. Wish I was there walking around with you. Bet it feels great to be able to leave that place, too.
Texture and gives them or because of the rust
I think the closed cell block door adds an imposing feel to the image. Nice textures throughout of course. It was good meeting and photographing with you. Where do you prefer comments- here or Aminus3 blog? I think I like the Aminus3 blog better myself.
very impressive, great work !!!
Love how the eye is drawn deep into the center of this shot, to some far distance vanishing point!
Wow looks very scary! Great textures and an amazing old building!
love the textures and details
I have always wanted to explore a place like this. I am envious of your opportunity! A bit haunting, yet fascinating all at once as this building seems to be returning to nature.
It seems a scary place!
