Fireboat on the Hudson

previous / next

This fireboat on the Hudson was shot from the Steven's Institute of Technology Campus in Hoboken on July 4, 2009. We went there to see the Macy's Fireworks on the Hudson. We hadn't planned on going but decided to hop the train and go. I really wasn't planning on getting too many images. I was tired from the long day and thought I would probably just people watch if I were to take any images at all. We found this grassy spot on the hill to be much less crowded and more comfortable than some of the other locations on the promenade and pier which afforded better views. We did get a great view of the fireworks although not the best spot to photograph them. Despite a utility pole, a lamppost, and a tree in the field of view and the fact that I forgot my remote, I did get some images of the fireworks that I have loaded into a slideshow which you can see here.

Very good shot of the fireboat. You managed to make fine use of the decreasing light.
-The fireworks was beautiful. You must have enjoyed it...

This is fantastic. The combination of the fireboat and the skyline, the lighting ... everything looks perfect.

I love the fire boat, Seems funny to a Midwesterner that you have a fire boat spraying water into water. :-)

And I liked your fireworks--quite the display. We were in NYC for the 4th a few years ago. Watched from the top of an apt. building, in Queens I think. Could see 4 major fireworks shows. Quite the night!

Fantastic capture. I liked the glow on the glass of the building caused by red sky light. The slides on firework are also amazing.

Super composition. The image has a wide feel even though you took it with a telephoto. I've never used a teleconverter as I've always been afraid they adversely effect sharpness. Think it's time to pick one up.

@Tom...Thanks...Teleconverters seem to have a bad rap...I think undeservedly so. This was also shot handheld no tri-pod, no mono-pod.
