Long Shadows
previous / next (8-9-09)Long Shadows at the end of a beautiful summer day in Hoboken. This was shot just minutes after the previous shot.
This was 100% processed in Lightroom...no HDR...I don't have a clue how to do HDR. No add on filters or plug-ins only Lightroom's default tools.

A few weeks ago my external LaCie HD started to show signs of failure. The LaCie was the drive where I kept all of my working photos. I managed to get everything backed up onto another drive and shortly after that the LaCie bit the dust...whew! At any rate I was not happy with my current back-up system. I tried one of those online services but it was going to take over 200 days to back everything up...nope not gonna work! So after debating for the past year or so I decided to get a DROBO. I received it a couple of days ago from B&H and set it up with 2 1T drives. In a few short hours all my important stuff was moved onto the DROBO and now I have redundancy on a working drive with an expandable capacity and a separate external as a 3rd back-up which I can stick in a fireproof safe. I think I have it covered now.
The DROBO seems to be working superbly and it was easy to install and get up and running. It sits nicely on my desk and I am very happy with it so far. I suggest that anyone with storage and back-up concerns look into this little device.
There are no RAID configurations to figure out, just pop in the SATA drives and go! You need at least 2 to start. If one starts to fail DROBO will tell you and you just pop out bad one and replace it with a new one and that's pretty much it. If it starts to get full DROBO will let you know and all you need to do to expand it is either add another SATA drive to one of the 2 remaining drive bays or replace the smallest drive with a larger one. All this while you are still working. Awesome!

great quality of light and lovely colors.. that's a good combination.. :D hmm.. drobo, been wanting to get one myself too.. let's see how that goes.. :D
Love the shot, nice colors, nice perspective!
(but why the insistance on "this is no hdr, no filters.... etc? as long as the end result is nice, I would not care :P )
@Cain...Thanks...people sometimes ask me, or assume that some of the images are HDR so I just put that in the description of images that I "think" might bring that question up...that's all. I get questions about my processing and I don't mind answering questions about my workflow and processing but this question is probably the one I hear most, so I just wanted to clarify.
Most of my stuff is basic, less than a couple of clicks and a couple of minutes in post processing. Short and sweet. I'm not a post processing guru so I feel like people are looking to me for expertise in an area where I am lacking since I don't do a lot of fancy footwork in post processing.
Love the really long shadows here. It's the kind of photograph that begs to be explored, not glanced over.
Beautiful image from top to bottom. Good to hear you got everything backed up safely.
splendid! which nice light
Beatiful. Love those shadows and that sky almost looks animated.
Have a great weekend.

Wow everything just pops off the screen here Laurie! Really nice photo.
wunderfull light, not HDR, very good capture
Fantastic shot. This is the perfect time of year to go shooting. The sun is at a lower angle for more saturated colors rather than the washed out colors of mid summer.
I have always believed there is a time and place for HDR, when lighting conditions warrant.
I just bought a 1T Western Digital drive for a backup. I filled my 250gig drive. Amazing how quickly we can fill up drives with our art.
This is almost like an impressionistic painting! It is too perfect to be from this world! :) Those lines, all diverting towards the horizon, and that beautiful light. Wonderful!
Amazing light, compo and perspective. One of my Capture This Photography faves.
Lovey light, colors and clarity. Love the angle too.
Love the lights and shades and as I mentioned before, the wonderful color of the sky. Very well done.
Lovely. Really lovely.
Laurie Very beautiful this blue on stone floors...
ps!: Laurie You have they problem on comments; because there is a filter now?
@Allan...Thanks. I was having an issue with some strange comments that popped up here and there on some old posts. I have no idea what it was about but this has stopped it so for now I will leave the filter.
very nice use of shadows! lovely! wow, getting fancy and stuff with the drobo huh? glad you didnt loose any data with the lacie failure - reminds me i need to back up my stuff, havent done that in a while. i still use archaic methods of backup compared to your new toy!
:)
The light is amazing as well as the sky! Well done!
