Santa is on Vacation!

Santa is tired and on Vacation until next year! The workshop is closed and the elves are also getting their well deserved break after another banner year.

I do hope everyone got all that they wanted for Christmas. I did, except for one thing. I wished that some miracle would have brought Rob home for Christmas. I now know how military families feel during these Holidays and it's very strange indeed. So to all the service men and women and their families I send up a prayer and my best wishes. From one Soldier's Mom to all of you Thank-You!

A Christmas Greeting from Me to You and You and You

previous / next

This is a heartfelt greeting for all of you who visit regularly or just happen upon this little photoblog today. The photoblog community and those who come here are so diverse and wonderful and even if you do not Celebrate Christmas please accept this wish in the spirit in which it is meant. Embrace the Joy in your lives and hold it close to your heart.

I have seen daily life through so many different eyes from so many corners of the world in ways I probably wouldn't have without this forum here and at Parallel Universe. Your comments have lead me to your blogs and to the glimpses into your lives.

This experience has really made me realize that while we may live in different parts of the world, have different cultures, religious and or political views, we all have so much to share and more in common than perhaps we ever realized before. A common thread, and that's sharing the beautiful and tender moments and sometimes the tragic, the funny and the absurd. We share what we see in our daily lives through our lenses in the hopes that it will touch someone else's heart in some meaningful way. Maybe it won't change the world, but at least for me it makes it a little smaller and more connected.

I look forward to many more years doing this photoblogging thing and sharing with all of you. I want to thank you all for sharing a little of your lives with me.

Flower Shop Kitty

previous / next

I shot this at William's Nursery a local flower shop/nursery. I think this friendly feline must have a great time there. It must be like living in the jungle without the danger or the work. She looked so sweet among the beautiful Christmas Poinsettias.

Christmas Reading

Over the past few years it's become more difficult to find my Christmas Spirit. Maybe it's because the children are growing up and it just isn't quite the same as when they were little. Perhaps this year it's because the weather has been very warm. I'm not really sure.

I am an avid reader (when I have time) and one thing I've done over the past few years is to look for a little Christmas book to read to sort of help to put me in the mood. This is a picture of those books from the past 3 years. I have yet to get out and get this year's edition. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you all for the encouraging comments on recent posts. I am in a funk but I am determined not to let it get the best of me. Rob comes home Saturday and I am really focused on that right now so maybe that has something to do with it. I am preoccupied with my excitement at his homecoming and feeling a little overwhelmed at the same time with other things that are going on in my life right now.

I am a perfectionist and I am distressed that everything isn't "perfect" this year, ie. the house is a wreck (outside) because of all the work which has stressed me out so much, with no end in sight. For those that may not know, our underground heating oil tank leaked into the soil and water table causing us to have to do an environmental clean up which is a long, over a year at this point, arduous, stressful, frustrating, inconvenient, messy, and potentially bankrupting endeavor. (Thank God for tank insurance and homeowners insurance!!!)

This shot was taken in a little room, which is actually more like a very large hallway, between the living room and family room/dining room/kitchen in our house. It's a cozy little spot with a comfy sofa and a blanket to curl up on and read or have a game of chess or even a little cat-nap in the afternoon quiet before the kids come home, or on a lazy, rainy, Sunday afternoon.

A quick note on the last post; That boat was definitely wrecked. It was impaled on these huge beams which pierced the hull through in several places leaving gaping holes in her and cracking her hull extensively on the side which is out of the frame. If you look you can see an example of one of the beams across the aft deck. Below is a snap of some of the damage. Ouch!!!

Christmas Baubles

This is a beaded garland I have draped from the bottom of my chandelier over my dining table. They catch the light in such a pretty way I decided to take a close up of them. It came out somewhat abstract, but still pretty.

Holiday Window

Ahhh...'Tis the season. This was a display at a Peddler's Village in Pennsylvania. This shopping village has all sorts of country shops and some nice restaurants and pubs. The gardens and landscape are just stunning. They put up beautiful displays to coincide with every season throughout the year. I've been going there since I was a very small child.
