Goose Stepping Geese 2

This is the second shot of the same geese from the previous post. I was running toward them trying to get them to fly so I could get a shot of them in flight. As you can see I failed to get them to fly.

Goose Stepping Geese

previous / next

This was shot at the little park near my house last Tuesday afternoon. There were a lot of geese there as usual for this time of year. I was trying to catch them in flight so I tried to run toward them with my camera ready in an effort to get them to take flight, but they would have none of it and just casually walked toward the water. For all my effort this is what I got in addition to getting my boots a bit muddy and full of goose stuff for my effort.

Feel free to visit "Parallel Universe" and look through the portfolio/archives since there are quite a few photos there that were never posted here. I will continue to post on both since each one gets different viewers. I have also changed the title of Parallel Universe to Capture This Photography 2.

Happy New Year 2009

previous / next

Happy New Year!

May 2009 bring Joy, Health, and Prosperity.

This was shot at the New York City Boat Show back in early December. When I saw these boats with the illuminated "New for 2009" on them I knew I would have to use one for my New Year's post. I think Mark wanted to find one of these under the tree this year, but Santa couldn't swing it this year. Perhaps some day.

Some More Christmas Decorations

previous / next

We had a very nice time at Mark's brother's house on Christmas Day. This is a shot of one of the many beautiful Christmas decorations on the Mantle of their living room fireplace. I loved the warmth of the candle light on this little Santa doll's face. They have had this charming little figure for quite a long time.

I am almost done with the seasonal photos for this year. I love all things Christmas and I really enjoyed posting these. There will only be one or two more Holiday themed shots for this year.

Our Christmas Kitty

I want to thank everyone for the wonderful Christmas wishes. We had an amazing Christmas here and Santa was very good to us. The best part was being together to enjoy it as a family.

This was shot Christmas morning as we unwrapped our gifts. Missy LOVES Christmas. The bows are her favorite part of the whole thing. She made out really well this year too. Santa Paws brought her a new toy and a wonderful new bed that is kind of like a fleece lined sack that she can crawl into and curl up. She LOVES it! In this photo she is looking adoringly at her boy, Rob.

White Christmas?

previous / next

I want to thank everyone for their kind words on the previous post. There has been an amazing outpouring of support for this family and I am sure they appreciate it.

This was the view outside of my office window on Friday. It was beautiful to see a snowstorm this close to Christmas. It is not too common for us to have a white Christmas and I know this snow won't stick around until Christmas Day. It has already been turning to slush which then freezes solid during the night making a pretty fair mess. But for now it is still white and looks pretty.

On a really happy note all of us are together under one roof for Christmas. Rob came home from Georgia Saturday afternoon and Russ finished up his finals at Rutgers and made it in about the same time as Rob. Of course Jon is thrilled to have his brothers home.. As much as he may protest, I don't think he likes being the only one left living at home. It was happy chaos here Saturday afternoon...and by Sunday it looked like a tornado went through the house.

Sugared Apples, Candy Canes, and Evergreens

previous / next

How sweet they look!

This was shot last Saturday in Chester NJ while I was on a day long Christmas shopping expedition. Chester is a charming town with lots of quaint little shops. The trip was pretty much a failure since the only gifts I managed to find were for one very spoiled cat! I just couldn't decide what to get for people...sigh...I need some shopping vibes and inspiration! Hopefully by the time this posts (I'm writing this on Saturday night) I will have found that inspiration and have finished all my shopping.

Christmas Greenhouse

previous / next

Aren't they beautiful? This is a greenhouse at Peddler's Village. It is connected to a really beautiful gift shop with some of the most amazingly beautiful home decor items I have ever seen. I saw so many things I wanted to buy there. I dropped a few hints to Mark while we were there. I also got a few ideas for gifts to give.

Whenever I see a greenhouse filled with Poinsettias I think of Frosty the Snowman and how he melted in one when he took Karen in to get warm and the evil Professor Hinkle slammed the door on them locking them inside. I always cried when I saw that as a little girl.

Little Carolers

previous / next

This is another shot from Peddler's Village taken the same day as the previous shots. There are lots of vendors out serving all sorts of goodies all over the Village, including hot cider cooked in iron pots over open fires. It is a wonderful place any time of year but it is especially wonderful this time of year.

This was shot at ISO 6400 in extremely low light. Even under these conditions the D700 produces a pretty decent image although a bit softer than the previous ISO 6400 shot.

I have a Seasonal theme going, as if you haven't already figured that out! I hope to be able to continue the theme throughout the month all the way to New Year's Eve.

Checking the Menu

previous / next

Another shot from Peddler's Village taken last Saturday evening. This is a favorite little pub in the Village. This woman who was checking out the menu caught my eye. Unfortunately the pub closes early. But there is another pub just up the hill in the same building and another nice restaurant to the left also part of the same building. There is no lack of places to duck in out of the cold for a bite to eat and a drink be it warm or cold.

Window Shopping

previous / next

This was shot the same day as the 2 previous posts but at Peddler's Village in Lahaska PA. This shopping village is so beautiful during the holiday season and it was quite packed with shoppers that day.

I love the way the stores' windows look this time of year and took quite a few shots of them while in the Village that evening. I thought this pottery was particularly sweet.

I know that there are some scratches and smudges on the windows which you can see in this shot. I decided to leave them rather than clean them up. I think it adds authenticity to the scene.

Posted Warnings

previous / next

This property owner makes his point pretty clear. The interesting thing here is that he doesn't own the utility pole where he posted these warnings...kind of ironic. This was shot on Saturday in Millford NJ just next to the bridge.

ETA...I just want to clarify some things about this post. I do not have any issue with people protecting their properties and privacy. I only posted this for the irony of it. Also this is not anyone's home. It is an old abandoned mill that was most recently used as a shop/studio for artists and craftspeople. From what a local resident told me it had been sold and the buyer wanted to "flip" the property, sell to a developer for lots of money to be torn down and have high priced luxury waterfront townhouses built along the River. The locals wanted to stop the development and have the old empty Mill preserved as an historic landmark...I believe the town was originally named for the old mill. That is what one local resident told me about the old property and from the sounds of it the owner was really unhappy with the residents for stopping the development. Now the old stone mill stands empty and falling into serious decay. It is sad to see this once beautiful building in such shape.

Thanksgiving Thoughts

previous / next

I often go for walks in the park to take photos but also to clear my head and reflect on the things in my life that are most precious to me. Among the things I am most Thankful for are of course my children, my husband, our health. I am Thankful for our security in a nation where we enjoy so many freedoms, freedoms that are easily taken for granted until they are gone.

Despite the struggles we face today, there is still much to be Thankful for. I hope that we do not lose sight of, or ever take them for granted. Taking our freedoms and liberties for granted are the quickest way to lose them. So remember them, be thankful for them, and never take them for granted because when they are gone it is too late. I wish for all the world to enjoy the same freedoms and liberties that we have. I hope that we will preserve those freedoms for our children and our children's children.

I also would be remiss if I didn't express my thanks to all of you who visit and or take the time to comment on my images. I am very honored by your visits and wonderful comments.

So here is wishing everyone who will be celebrating a very Happy, Healthy, and Thankful Thanksgiving.

Mohawk Mallards

previous / next

It was a very overcast November afternoon but it was warm and pleasant out despite the gray skies. I haven't been to my little Mohawk Park in quite a while so I decided to take a walk and enjoy the warm afternoon. The water was beautiful and the colorful reflections were lovely to see. I came upon these 4 Mallards, a common sight there, and they were so cute that I had to take some photos of them. This is one of my favorites from the day.

Pink Croc

previous / next

This was also shot at the Rutgers Gardens. As soon as I got out of the car I noticed this pink Croc on the fence next to my car. I have always wondered how one loses such things. I know that babies often discard their shoes and it can go unnoticed but this was not a baby's shoe, it looked like it belonged to a young child but definitely not a baby or toddler.

I do know how a college student loses shoes though! Russell told me the story of how he and some friends were walking in New Brunswick and one of them was kicking something on the sidewalk and his shoe went flying over a fence and into a construction pit where he could not retrieve it. Silly college students! So at least now I have an answer to one of the mysteries of life!
