Archived Dog House
previous / nextI hope to get out and do more shooting than I have been the last few weeks but it has been a bit hectic on the weekends and that is when I usually have time to go out shooting.
To all those who celebrate it I want to wish you a Happy Easter.

I wanted to express my sympathies and good wishes to the people of India. My heart goes out to the victims of these horrible attacks and their families and loved ones. May the madness come to a quick end and peace and security return.

Pink Croc
previous / nextI do know how a college student loses shoes though! Russell told me the story of how he and some friends were walking in New Brunswick and one of them was kicking something on the sidewalk and his shoe went flying over a fence and into a construction pit where he could not retrieve it. Silly college students! So at least now I have an answer to one of the mysteries of life!

Rutgers Gardens Potting Shed
previous / nextThe gardens are open to the public from 8:30 AM til dusk year round and it is just a beautiful place that I highly recommend to any garden enthusiast or just anyone who wants to stroll around in a beautiful setting. The gardens are free to the public but do offer guided tours at nominal cost.
I did not know about these gardens myself until a couple of weeks ago when Mark told me about them. (How could he keep such a secret!) I am so glad I know about them now and I plan to go back often. They promise to be beautiful all year round from what I could see on my brief visit there.
This is a shot of a little gift shop called "The Potting Shed" which is located at the gardens. I didn't have the chance to go in and I'm not even sure it was open when I was there on Election day. We went there to pick up Russell in order to take him to vote with us. While waiting for him to get out of class we took a quick ride through and strolled around near the gift shop. It was a rainy day and we didn't have a lot of time to explore as much as I would have liked so I will definitely have to go back soon to have a better look around. I think I might go back this weekend...weather permitting.
For more information visit their website here.
A note to my friends who use Pixel Post based blogs...it seems that all my attempts to comment on your wonderful sites recently are getting rejected and flagged as SPAM...I have brought it to the attention of some of you. I don't want you to think I don't come there anymore I just cannot comment any longer. I hope whatever the issue is it gets straightened out soon.

Rahway River Bridge
previous / nextI also want to apologize for the comment issue that was pointed out to me. Apperently Blogger has done away with the URL line in comment form which really annoys me as well as others who use Blogger. At any rate I found out that they have a new form in draft mode that uses "Open ID". I don't know much about it but I do know that when I tried to use it on my site it did not work well at all so I've gone back to the "standard new" form until I get something else figured out. In the meantime all I can suggest is to use the form such as it is and include your URL in the body of the form or in the nickname. I know it's a bit of a pain and I really appreciate it for those willing to put up with this temporary (hopefully) inconvenience.

Fading Away
previous / nextThis is another from Mohawk Park and is similar to one I posted on Parallel Universe on Monday. I wasn't sure which one I liked better.
I wanted to mention great, fun, Holiday photoblog that is the creation of Justin Gaynor. It's called "Tis' The Season" and it's a collaborative photoblog featuring seasonal Holiday photos from Thanksgiving through New Years from some very fine photographers many of whom you know and if you don't you will and I promise it will be worth the visit. So please go check it out. It started officially last week and there are already some wonderful photos up to enjoy.

Until
previous / nextBe safe Rob. We Love you and are proud of you and we miss you already. It was wonderful to have you home for Thanksgiving. If only the time had not passed so quickly.
This is another shot of the empty bench in the fog at Mohawk Park. The emptiness of the bench suits my mood. Rob left early Sunday morning and we are all missing him already.
Thanksgiving was wonderful. We had 14 people together around the table and of course we all ate too much. I still feel stuffed today. The time together was just too short.

Mohawk Park Bench on a Foggy Fall Morning
previous / nextI have posted a black and white version of this photo on Parallel Universe if you are interested in seeing this scene in black and white. I found both versions appealing so I decided to share them both.
I want to thank everyone for the wonderful response to the last image. I am truly humbled and flattered.

The Reveal
previous / nextThe fog slowly lifted to reveal the splendid Fall colors by the Rahway River in my little Mohawk Park. I was very damp and raw cold but it was well worth a little discomfort and some doggie pies that I didn't quite manage to avoid...Grrrrr!
I have a few photos from my foggy morning stroll that I will share here and on Parallel Universe over the next few days.

Autumn
previous / nextHis first order of business when he got home was to kiss the Missy (his cat) and take a real shower. I am happy to report that he is quite well and hasn't seemed to have changed a bit. It took him all of about 30 seconds to settle in and pick up where he left off. He is tormenting his brothers once again, all in good fun. He's taken over my office and set up both of his computers next to mine on my desk...I'm not so sure about that one! Good thing I have a big desk!
I hope everyone has a great weekend. It promises to be a busy one for us since we are also celebrating Jon's Confirmation this Sunday and having lots of family and friends here to join us in our multi-faceted celebration.

The Cabin
previous / nextI'm still waiting for Rob to get home. I still don't have an exact date or time when he will arrive and it's making me crazy! I half expect him to just show up and every time the doorbell or phone rings I get all excited. I just wish he would get here, but on the other hand if he doesn't get here for a few days he might be here for Thanksgiving this year, the first time in 3 years that he would be here for Thanksgiving. He's never missed Christmas with us since he went into the service, but always Thanksgiving. He doesn't like Turkey dinner but I will gladly cook something he loves instead! Ukrainian Easter is his favorite "food" Holiday so maybe I will have that for him.

The Photographer
previous / nextThis was shot in New Jersey in the Delaware Water Gap area somewhere near Crater Lake I believe. We drove all over and I don't remember the names of all the places we went, but they were all in the Water Gap area. It is just so beautiful there. It was a real treat especially now that the fall colors are in abundance. It won't last long so if you can get there do it soon or you will miss quite a show.
I was shooting from on top of this mountain looking out across the valley when I saw this man perched on the edge of the cliff trying to get his shot. I loved this perspective so I took the shot. I only wish he had on a bit lighter color clothing so that he might have stood out more. What was he thinking when he chose to wear all dark clothes? Some people! I guess I can forgive him though since I still love this shot.
I took a few shots looking out over the valley as well but there was a bit of haze as it was a rather warm day and I wasn't that thrilled with them. I did get plenty of shots from all around the area that really speak fall however. I will be posting them over the next few days here and on Parallel Universe.

Grace
previous / nextOr maybe I'm the one who has become boring? That's it! It's me. I know it! I've lost my inspiration, my vision. Yet, while I was walking, and thinking, and looking, I did notice a few things in ways I hadn't really cared to notice before. Like the strength and grace of a single blade of tall grass. To have withstood the weather and even just to be able to stand under it's own weight is pretty extraordinary when you think about it. True resilience. It holds the promise of new life in it's seeds waiting for nature to plant them and carry on the next generation. Seems so simple and yet astounding and complex at the same time.
Ok, that's my sappy post for the year. Enjoy it now since I may not have another one in me for a very long time, which some will probably think is a very good thing!

Intense
previous / nextI noticed tonight that a cool breeze was coming in through my windows, and although I haven't listened to the weather forecast yet tonight, I hold the hope that some real fall like weather with crisp clear morning air and pleasant afternoons with billowing clouds decorating an otherwise azure blue sky will greet me when I wake tomorrow. I don't want to hear the weather forecast tonight, I think I will just go to bed with thoughts of fall and see what I find when I wake. Do you think I will be pleasantly surprised?
I've been having difficulty finding time to get online and visit all my favorite photoblogs lately, in fact just posting here has become increasingly difficult as life just seems to get busier and busier despite the idea that I thought that once school went back into session I might find a little more time. I've been wrong on that count.
Tomorrow we are going to visit Bucknell in Pennsylvania, yet another college in Russell's search. The college search process is a daunting thing for a 17 year old, and of course his parents as well. Each day is one day closer and one day more stressful for all of us. SAT I's are finished, SAT II's are a few weeks away. The common applications and teacher recommendations are all in process. Russell seems to be holding up pretty well so far, I wish I could say the same for his parents!

Revisiting the Great Swamp
I've spent a lot of time this week revisiting the archives; tossing some and selecting some that I like for posting and or printing. I have so many photos and I never looked that closely at a lot of them. I think what would happen is one or two out of twenty really grab my attention and make the others seem less worthy. This was one of those shots. It was taken at the great swamp the same day as this and this.I'll be rather busy the next few days I've got a lot of projects to finish before going to see Rob next week, so I may not get around to visit as much, but I will try.

Great Swamp Walkway
This was shot in the Great Swamp on the same day as this shot. The Great Swamp is just that, a swamp, so they built walkways that wind their way through the park so that people can explore many varieties of flora and fauna that abound there. It really is a beautiful and peaceful place.Labels: black and white, Fall, Great Swamp, Landscape, Rural

Suburban Barn
This was shot a few weeks ago in the late afternoon near the Great Swamp. I spotted it behind a volunteer firehouse next to the tiny house in this shot. It's the kind of place I'd like to revisit when there is snow on the ground.Be sure to check out:
