The Harbor

previous / next

Would you believe this is Jersey City? It looks like a southern coastal city to me. Until you look closely at those plastic palm trees that are in the funky outdoor bar on the left called "Sand Bar USA". More on that in the next post or two.

What a beautiful day that was. It was one of those days you wish you could put in a bottle and take out whenever you feel like it.

As of July 2008 I have decided to post the same photos on "Parallel Universe" as I do here. It has become too complicated to maintain two different photoblogs on a regular basis. Feel free to visit "Parallel Universe" and look through the portfolio/archives since there are quite a few photos there that were never posted here. I will continue to post on both since each one gets different viewers.

Guard Shack

previous / next

The odd little shack where the sign was is on the left. It was so small and I found it quaint. It must have a pretty good view of the marina and parking lot.

Boat Lift

previous / next

This is the big boat lift at Liberty Harbor Marina. I'm not sure how this one works, but when I was a young adult I had a friend who worked in a marina and the ones they had used these huge straps that went beneath the hull of the boat and then lifted it like it was in a sling. My guess is this one is like those only the straps do not look like they are attached.

Liberty Harbor Marina

previous / next

Many people may not realize this but there are marinas located in Jersey City. I know of 2. This one is located near the city proper.

The photo is of the sign on the odd little guard shack. I really wanted a fisheye photo of it for this series so I accepted the sun's not quite so convenient position and accepted the lens flare such as it is. It doesn't really bother me now that I look at it.

Masts and Poles

This was shot at Liberty State Park. There is a nice marina there where you can see some beautiful vessels. There is an old lightship which is visible in the foreground of this shot. It was at one time called "The Lightship Barge and Grill" and it looked like a really fun place. Mark and I had always wanted to stop there but we never had the chance until recently, but just our luck it is no longer a restaurant, we missed the boat, so to speak. (I know, I know, that was beyond lame.)

What attracted me to this shot were all the different posts, masts, and poles along with the rigging and wires. They looked interesting silhouetted against the sky at that late hour.

I am sorry I haven't been around that much lately, but concert season for the boys is in full swing along with some big projects that I've had to attend to. I have been visiting, but I've just had no time to leave many comments. Hopefully things will settle down after next weekend, well at least a little bit.
