Wheel Barrow

previous / next

I love simple things. A single item in a scene like a lost shoe on a fence, or an empty bench in a park, or even just a wheel barrow laid on its side in a garden. This is another shot I took on my brief visit to Rutgers Gardens.

As of July 2008 I have decided to post the same photos on "Parallel Universe" as I do here. It has become too complicated to maintain two different photoblogs on a regular basis. Feel free to visit "Parallel Universe" and look through the portfolio/archives since there are quite a few photos there that were never posted here. I will continue to post on both since each one gets different viewers. I have also changed the title of Parallel Universe to Capture This Photography 2.

Pink Croc

previous / next

This was also shot at the Rutgers Gardens. As soon as I got out of the car I noticed this pink Croc on the fence next to my car. I have always wondered how one loses such things. I know that babies often discard their shoes and it can go unnoticed but this was not a baby's shoe, it looked like it belonged to a young child but definitely not a baby or toddler.

I do know how a college student loses shoes though! Russell told me the story of how he and some friends were walking in New Brunswick and one of them was kicking something on the sidewalk and his shoe went flying over a fence and into a construction pit where he could not retrieve it. Silly college students! So at least now I have an answer to one of the mysteries of life!

Rutgers Gardens Potting Shed

previous / next

There is a wonderful hidden treasure located right here in Central NJ on the Cook College Campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick. It is the Rutgers Gardens, a beautifully maintained 50 acres of wonderful gardens. It was established in the 1930's as an outdoor classroom for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences and has continued to expand ever since.

The gardens are open to the public from 8:30 AM til dusk year round and it is just a beautiful place that I highly recommend to any garden enthusiast or just anyone who wants to stroll around in a beautiful setting. The gardens are free to the public but do offer guided tours at nominal cost.

I did not know about these gardens myself until a couple of weeks ago when Mark told me about them. (How could he keep such a secret!) I am so glad I know about them now and I plan to go back often. They promise to be beautiful all year round from what I could see on my brief visit there.

This is a shot of a little gift shop called "The Potting Shed" which is located at the gardens. I didn't have the chance to go in and I'm not even sure it was open when I was there on Election day. We went there to pick up Russell in order to take him to vote with us. While waiting for him to get out of class we took a quick ride through and strolled around near the gift shop. It was a rainy day and we didn't have a lot of time to explore as much as I would have liked so I will definitely have to go back soon to have a better look around. I think I might go back this weekend...weather permitting.

For more information visit their website here.

A note to my friends who use Pixel Post based blogs...it seems that all my attempts to comment on your wonderful sites recently are getting rejected and flagged as SPAM...I have brought it to the attention of some of you. I don't want you to think I don't come there anymore I just cannot comment any longer. I hope whatever the issue is it gets straightened out soon.

Jersey Roots

previous / next

Well tomorrow is the big day! Russell will be moving into his dorm on the campus of Rutgers University to start his education in music performance at Mason Gross and double in Biology at the School of Arts and Sciences.

It will be a big change for all of us and an exciting one as well. We are close enough to attend any performances he may be involved in.
