GWB in Black and White

previous / next

I really need to thank everyone for the overwhelming response to the previous image. It received an amazing 78 comments at last count, 25 here and 53 over at Capture This Photography 2 (formerly known as Parallel Universe) I am really, really flattered by the amazing response it received. Thank you!

Now I have a hard act to follow I suppose...Hmmm...

I really don't know where to start with my backlog of images, but I don't want to post every day either. I like posting every other day because I find it more manageable.

I picked this one of the George Washington Bridge to start moving away from Jersey City. I love this bridge and there is a wonderful park that runs next to the river on the Jersey side and under the bridge. This was actually taken a few weeks before the Jersey City photos but I was anxious to do the Jersey City series so I set it aside.

The weather was not great that day and in fact we got caught in a violent storm as we were driving out of the park which made it a little scary with all the tree branches falling, the rain wind, lighting and thunder, and the sheer cliffs next to us. I felt worse for the bicyclers and hikers that got caught in the storm.

News:

This photo of the Bucknell Quad is a 2 page feature photo in the Summer 2008 issue of Bucknell Magazine.

As of July 2008 I have decided to post the same photos on "Parallel Universe" as I do here. It has become too complicated to maintain two different photoblogs on a regular basis. Feel free to visit "Parallel Universe" and look through the portfolio/archives since there are quite a few photos there that were never posted here. I will continue to post on both since each one gets different viewers. I have also changed the title of Parallel Universe to Capture This Photography 2.

Rahway River Bridge

previous / next

This is a shot of the bridge in Mohawk Park that crosses the Rahway River. I remember when I was little this bridge replaced one that was a little further upstream and used to wash away fairly regularly when the water would get high. I don't think the water has ever breached this bridge although I imagine it's come close a time or two.

I want to apologize for my absence recently. I've been suffering from a bad cold and just haven't felt up to posting or visiting. I do appreciate all of your visits. I hope to get around tomorrow if I feel better.

I also want to apologize for the comment issue that was pointed out to me. Apperently Blogger has done away with the URL line in comment form which really annoys me as well as others who use Blogger. At any rate I found out that they have a new form in draft mode that uses "Open ID". I don't know much about it but I do know that when I tried to use it on my site it did not work well at all so I've gone back to the "standard new" form until I get something else figured out. In the meantime all I can suggest is to use the form such as it is and include your URL in the body of the form or in the nickname. I know it's a bit of a pain and I really appreciate it for those willing to put up with this temporary (hopefully) inconvenience.

Moon Over the GWB

This was shot on New Years Eve, the same day as the previous shot. I saw the moon coming up over the bridge deck as I was walking down the park road that runs beneath the bridge. When it rose to a point where it was framed by the bridge structure I thought it was a pretty cool sight.

Under the GWB looking at NY from Fort Lee

This was taken on New Years Eve from a park that is under the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee NJ. There is also a park up above on a cliff that has beautiful views of the bridge and the surrounding area as well.

It seemed kind of creepy being under this massive bridge with all the traffic rumbling far overhead.

On Saturday we did end up with temps in the 70's and Sunday it was in the 50's, still very warm for January. They say the cold air is coming, I'm going to miss the warm stuff! Although a little snow would be nice.
