As of July 2008 I have decided to post the same photos on "Parallel Universe" as I do here. It has become too complicated to maintain two different photoblogs on a regular basis. Feel free to visit "Parallel Universe" and look through the portfolio/archives since there are quite a few photos there that were never posted here. I will continue to post on both since each one gets different viewers. I have also changed the title of Parallel Universe to Capture This Photography 2.

Grey Goose

previous /next

I know I posted 2 consecutive days...wow!!! I haven't done that in a long time. But I've been having some fun with my new DIY photography "toys" and I'm anxious to share some of the photos.

In keeping with yesterdays shot, this is what I was actually shooting before I took yesterday's. I think it turned out ok. I should have rotated the bottle a little bit more so that the "S" and the "E" in goose was more in the shot. A little more refining to do and more practice is needed but not bad for the first time out of the (light)box...I know, I know, that was just corny!

I used another one of my new DIY photography toys in the photo posted at Parallel Universe if anyone is interested in checking it out.

Lime and Cranberries

previous / next

I have been busy playing lately. I've been experimenting with some DIY photography tools such as lightboxes and snoots and such. I've been learning a lot with them and it's been pretty fun playing. I still have a lot to learn though! I will be posting some of the shots here and at Parallel Universe over the coming days/weeks. What better time of year to play with such things?

This is a macro of a slice of lime and several frozen cranberries floating in white cranberry juice...Mmmmm...refreshing! As an adult cocktail you can add 2 shots of Grey Goose Vodka, 1 shot of Cointreau, a generous splash of white cranberry juice, and ice in a shaker. Shake until chilled and pour over the lime and 3 frozen cranberries in a Martini glass and It makes a tasty and festive White Cosmopolitan...but be careful they are pretty potent! This one was a virgin one with no alcohol just the cranberry juice, lime, and cranberries. I was using it as a model in the lightbox.

Happy New Year! An Apple a Day...

previous / next

...Keeps the Dr. Away. I will eat healthier in 2008. I will exercise more in 2008. I will save more money in 2008. I will spend less money in 2008. I will be more charitable. I will give up (fill in the blank). It's time to make those dreaded New Year's Resolutions. So what are yours this year?

A few years ago I resolved not to make resolutions...Instead I reflect on the year before and think about the positive things in my life and try to let go of the "bad stuff". It's not as easy as it sounds. I think sometimes we let the "bad stuff" define the year for us because every year around this time I hear more people say things like..."I will be glad when this year is over! It was a bad year!" than I ever hear people say "It was a great year. I just hope next year is as good!" I wonder if it really was as bad as we perceive? Or do we tend to let the bad outweigh the good? Does the bad stuff make us forget about the good stuff? So this year I think I will "resolve" to focus on the good stuff, and try to minimize the impact the bad stuff has on my life...after all there will always be bad stuff.

So here is a Happy New Years wish to all of you. I wish you good health, prosperity, and happiness in 2008. Remember the "good stuff" it will make the "bad stuff" easier to take. Be safe in your celebrations please!

PS...I am having internet trouble so I haven't been able to update my sites. I will be back when it's all fixed...Thanks!

Easter Desert "Khrustyky"

I hope everyone who celebrates it enjoyed a very nice Easter. We had a nice Easter with family. We always have a traditional Ukrainian Easter. Mark's side of the family is Ukrainian and Russian. One of the favorite Ukrainian foods is "Khrustyky" a fried pastry sprinkled with powdered sugar. It's light and crunchy and a little messy, but oh sooo tasty. It's one of Russell's favorites.

Thank you all for the support of my "call to action" regarding the Verizon wireless. For those who hadn't read my last post, Verizon Wireless has a policy of suspending wireless service for 6 months while a service member is deployed. They will not extend the suspension longer than 6 months. At the end of the 6 months the # is disconnected permanently and reassigned. However deployments are 12 months or more so the policy is utterly useless. I am putting out a call to action for Verizon customers to let them know how pointless this policy is and to urge them to change the policy to extend the suspension for up to 24 months so soldiers can keep their phone numbers. I don't think it's too much to ask of a big company like Verizon to do such a small thing for the members of the military who are deployed and in harms way.
