Grill Open

This is another shot of the funky bar, nightclub, Sand Bar USA, in the previous shot. It is such an odd place. There are a number of these couches sort of randomly placed around. I'm sure the place attracts a young crowd. There were only a few people there when we stopped in but I really get the sense that the place is a popular energetic night spot.

I want to take a moment to say thanks to the people who sent me supportive emails and messages. It means a lot to me.

I have taken my VFXY account out of hibernation and re-activated it.

As of July 2008 I have decided to post the same photos on "Parallel Universe" as I do here. It has become too complicated to maintain two different photoblogs on a regular basis. Feel free to visit "Parallel Universe" and look through the portfolio/archives since there are quite a few photos there that were never posted here. I will continue to post on both since each one gets different viewers.

Sand Bar USA

Is open! There is a funky bar/night club located on the waterfront in Jersey City next to the Marina in the previous shots. It is quite large and has a lot of outdoor areas complete with plastic palm trees, a sand beach, and some unusual furniture. We were there early in the afternoon so it was pretty quiet but judging from the looks of the place it is probably hopping at night especially in the summer. We stopped for a beer at one of the outside bars. We did not venture inside although it must be quite large with 2 dance floors and several lounge and dining areas.

Fishing in Round Valley

previous / next

The weather has been muggy and overcast with scattered rain, quite a lot of it actually since around the middle of last week. It just has not been very nice at all. Despite the weather people were still out and about determined to eek out some summer recreation wherever and whenever they could.

We took a ride out to PA and ended up rained out pretty much. We decided duck into a brew pub for a quick bite and a beer while we waited out the rain. The rain let up some but it was still drizzly so we called it for the day.

On the way home as we neared Round Valley the weather perked up a bit. Well, at least it stopped pouring, and even stopped drizzling. So we decided to take a ride down to the boat launch and look at the reservoir to see if there was anything interesting. It was pretty quiet but there were a few hearty souls determined to enjoy the day by pursuing their hobbies, fishing and boating.

This was shot at about 8:30 on Saturday evening. The light was fading fast but it was really quite pleasant there.

Dog Fish

This shot was taken Saturday at Ken Lockwood Gorge in Hunterdon County NJ. It is a lovely spot where you can go fishing, hiking, biking, and generally exploring. Needless to say there were many people out enjoying the gorgeous weather. The water was pretty turbulent, murky, and muddy from some wicked near monsoon weather we had on Wednesday and then again on Friday. I went with black and white for this because the water looked much more pleasing in black and white as opposed to muddy in the color version.

The dog in this photo was having a grand old time running around all over the park. No one knew who he belonged to and of course the fishermen were rather purturbed that he was in and out of the water scaring off the fish. We were asked several times if it was our dog and of course it isn't. I got the feeling that at least one particularly annoyed fisherman didn't believe us when we said it wasn't ours.
