Working on the Railroad

previous / next

I am continuing to make my way through the backlog of images that I had not posted but intended to. This is from November in New Hope Pennsylvania and the New Hope Ivyland Railraod. These are the guys that run things. From the looks of it they were changing shifts. These guys always look happy so it is my guess that they love what they do.

Number 40

previous / next

This was shot on Saturday afternoon in New Hope PA. It is the New Hope Ivyland Steam Train as it gets ready to take tourists on another run. It is quite a charming scene especially this time of year with Thanksgiving having just passed and Christmas just around the corner.

As of July 2008 I have decided to post the same photos on "Parallel Universe" as I do here. It has become too complicated to maintain two different photoblogs on a regular basis. Feel free to visit "Parallel Universe" and look through the portfolio/archives since there are quite a few photos there that were never posted here. I will continue to post on both since each one gets different viewers. I have also changed the title of Parallel Universe to Capture This Photography 2.

Light Rail

previous / next

One major improvement that has really made a difference in Jersey City is the Light Rail System. It was opened to the public in the spring of 2000.

Hudson-Bergen Light Rail offers service from North and South Hudson County into the downtown Jersey City waterfront and Hoboken. The light rail trains provide transpoprtation for residents and employees, throughout Bayonne, Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Union City, West New York and North Bergen. It also serves as transportation to business and shopping centers including Exchange Place, Newport Centre and Hoboken. It will also connect passengers to other transit alternatives such as NJ TRANSIT buses and trains, the NY Waterway ferry, and PATH trains to New York City.

The Engineer

previous / next

This was shot the same day as this shot. This was the engineer for the New Hope Ivyland train the day that I was there a couple of weeks ago. He was doing his inspection of the engine while the it was taking water and preparing for its next run.

I haven't been out to shoot in quite a while, since I was sick. All of my cued-up archive shots somehow don't seem to fit for me right now so I am running out of things I want to post. I think I will have to deal with that this weekend, or maybe even tomorrow. We are supposed to get some snow!

Rust

I feel like my blogging activities are getting rusty rather like this old wrench I spotted on the rusty door of this old rail car some weeks ago. I've been struggling to get things done and I am making headway but there is just not enough time in the day for all my projects right now.

I am about 1/2 way done with one of the bigger projects so that should help a lot when it's all out of the way. Then hopefully I will have a little more time.

I want you all to know how much it means to me that you continue to visit even though I've been scarce lately. Thank you!

Steam Bath!

Well it was kinda funny at the time...I was in New Hope a couple of weeks ago when I took this shot. I was stooping down very low to try and get a close up of the drive wheels and pistons etc. (not sure of the technical name) on this old steam locomotive, when suddenly...WOOOOOSH!!! STEAM BATH!!! I wasn't prepared for it and part of me thinks the engineer did it on purpose. (One of the engineers works for the same company as my husband, and does this on the side, so it wouldn't surprise me at all, if my husband gave him the wink and the nod.)
