Foggy, Rainy, Road Trip

previous / next

This was from one of our summer road trips to go visiting colleges with Russell last summer. It was a very nasty day and we hit quite a lot of flooding on the first half of the ride...it was a bit harrowing. This was shot through my very dirty windshield. (I wasn't driving so don't yell at me.)

Russell is now just waiting to hear back from the colleges about his applications. So far we have heard from one and they have accepted him...Whew! At least we know he has someplace to go in the Fall! We are still waiting for the others to respond.

There are still some auditions for music to get through. So we will see what happens there. His main major is going to be something with biology and chemistry, but he is planning on continuing with his music whether as a minor, or double major he has not yet decided. He is sure that he wants to play in an ensemble and continue taking lessons though.

I've still been really busy. I will try to catch up with everyone soon.

Pussy Willows in December's First Snow

previous / next

It is December 2 and I woke this morning to the first real snow of the season. Not a big snow but enough to cover everything with a beautiful Mantle of pure white delight. I of course was very excited. I had to go to church early to set up the coffee and goodies for Fellowship Hour. When the service ended and all the goodies were put out I went outside and got a few shots of the snow outside of the church.

There is a Pussy Willow bush/tree next to the parking lot. I thought Pussy Willows bloomed with their little fuzzy buds in the early Spring, I didn't know they could have buds in the Fall/Winter. I know there are a few gardeners who visit my site and I would love if one of you could enlighten me.

Sometimes the Show Can't Go On...

Saturday night was supposed to be the second performance of "Carousel" in Manasquan at the Algonquin Arts Theater. Friday night's show was wonderful and went well but tonight was a different story.

We had to take the hour ride to get Russell there for the show. He was to be in the pit by 7:30 for the 8:00 show. The ride was fine we got there in plenty of time. What we didn't realize when we first arrived was that there was a major power failure in the area. Apparently a sub-station that was a block away got struck by lighting when a huge nasty storm came through the area a few hours earlier.

The cast, crew and orchestra were all outside the theater waiting to get news as to whether the show would go on or not. The orchestra people were reading, the cast was putting on make-up and warming up outside where it was cooler. We talked to the utility people and they told us that the power would not be restored until about 9pm. The company manager made the announcement that the show would not go on at about 7:30.

So that was that, no show tonight. The cast was so broken up by the news that they broke out into a beautiful chorus of the Handel's Messiah Hallelujah Chorus. It was impressive and inspiring!!! and rather amusing.

This shot was taken in the parking lot while we were waiting for the formal announcement that the show was in fact going to be canceled. I noticed the sun shining in the raindrops in some shrubs that were in the parking lot and since I had nothing better to do while waiting I shot them.
